* This regiment, recruited in the counties of Monroe, Ontario,
Livingston, Yates and Steuben, NY rendezvoused at Rochester, where
it was mustered into the U. S. service for one year on Oct. 4-22,
1864, except Co. A, which was mustered in at Elmira on Sept. 24.
Co. K did not join the regiment until some time in November.
In December it participated in the raid to Hicksford, Va., and in
Feb., 1865, it was again engaged at Hatcher's run with a loss of
10 killed, 21 wounded and 3 missing. During the Appomattox
campaign the regiment fought with its corps at White Oak ridge,
Gravelly run and Five Forks, when its casualties aggregated 45
killed and wounded.
It was also active in the final assault on Petersburg and was
present on the 9th at Appomattox, when Lee surrendered. Under
Col. McMahon, It was mustered out at Washington, D. C., July 1,
1865. During its brief term of active service the regiment lost
by death 1 officer and 36 enlisted men killed and mortally
wounded; 53 enlisted men died from disease and other causes;
total deaths, 90.

Was the son of Abner TALLMAN and Thankful SPARKS, and was born in Broome Co
NY, September 8, 1823. His maternal Grandfather, John SPARKS, took passage
on the first Continental ship that sailed from an American port, and he
fought all through the Revolutionary War, on land and on sea; Abner Tallman
(father ) was a native of Essex Co NY and came to this county in 1834 and
located in Dunkirk, He was a carpenter and joiner by trade, and died in
Arkwright in October 1849. He married Thankful SPARKS a native of Washington
Co NY who was a member of the free will Baptist church, and died in Dunkirk
in 1837 at the age of 46 years.
John TALLMAN was reared in Chautauqua CO, and received a common school
education, and learned the carpenter and joiners trade with his father, in
which business he continued until 1864, September, when he entered the Union
Service, enlisting in Co A 188th Regt. NY VOL. Infantry and served til the
end of the war, being honorably discharged May 30, 1865. While in the Army
he contracted chronic rheumatism, and has never seen a well day since, being
very badly drawn out of shape. He has been granted a pension to relieve his
mind from anxiety and provision for his comfort. and owns a large brick
house and a lot of land in Forestville, where he resides. In 1844 he moved
to Great Valley, Cattaraugus Co NY where he served for 5 years as Constable,
where he resided excepting the time he was in the Army, until the spring of
1880 when he came to Forestville. John TALLMAN married in 1844 to Elmira
BENNETT, dau of Jarvis

Sally Ann Newton;John is buried in Magnolia Cemetery there is nothing found
in any records I have access to, for Solomon war data but his Grandson has
his military papers and data including photos, I have seen them, Solomon
married to Laura CASE late in life, he was 20 yrs older they had a son
Henry William TALLMAN February 02, 1881 who married to Maude PRATT in
Mayville, After Solomon's death in 1909 Laura Case TALLMAN remarried to a
Freeman in Mayville and she is still living there 1930

parents of Willie, 1859-17 Oct 1863; Freddy W., 1864-7 Oct 1865; Frank, b.9

and siblings in 1854. I have no record of either John/Harmen Jan or

Hendrik Reuselink. He enlisted at Clymer 28 Jul 1862, pvt with Co.D, 112th
NY Inf., died at Folly Island, SC, 25 Sep 1863. Don't think he was married.
