Early settlers in the Town of Lincklaen taken from "1874 History of Chenango & Madison Counties, NY" by James H Smith; pub. 1880. Tried to use year, where stated, person and where they were from.
LINCKLAEN was formed from German, April, 12, 1823. A part of Pitcher was taken off in 1827, and another part in 1833.
First settlement: previous to 1799
Deacon Elisha and Jesse CATLIN, brothers, Clinton, NY.; Jesse moved to Tioga county, Pa,
Abel FAIRCHILD, Conn,
------- BACKUS, soon removed to Cazenovia, and
Aaron PEET, soon removed from town.

Nathaniel GRAY, from Sherburne; moved after year or two to Evans, Erie co.

George BURDICK, R.I.; first settlement at Burdick Settlement

Daniel BURDICK, distant relative of George, born Hopkinston, R.I., from Petersburgh, Ren. co.
Samuel STILLMAN, born Farmington, Conn; from Berlin, Ren. co.
Deway MAINE, Conn
