"R" Census Enumeration, Clinton County This transcript is set up in this way: the name of the HEAD OF FAMILY is given, last name first, in alphabetical order - followed by the TOWN and PAGE on which his entry is to be found - followed by the figures of his ENTRY to be interpreted by counting the placement of the figure and getting the column title below. The town abbreviations used are: Chm. = Champlain Chz. = Chazy Mor. = Mooers Pru. = Peru Plt. = Plattsburgh At this time, all the present towns of the county were included within the bounds of these five townships. To determine in which township a present town lay in 1810, check under Clinton County in French's GAZETTEER OF NEW YORK STATE (1860). Sometimes the census taker placed a - to indicate "no entry," sometimes there is a 0 for that purpose, and sometimes a blank. All "no entries" are indicated here by a -.
