Ogden Goelet
1837-1897
Ogden Goelet became a member of the Society April 6, 1886, and died on board his yacht, Mayflower, in Cowes Road, England, August 27, 1897.
He was born in the city of New York about sixty years ago and was a representative of one of the most valuable real-estate properties in the county. The old Goelet farm extended from the vicinity of
the Windsor Hotel on Fifth Avenue to the East River.
Mr. and Mrs. Goelet were prominent in society circles in this city, Newport, London, and elsewhere. His yacht Mayflower was one of the largest, finest, and fastest in the world and has
recently been purchased by the United States Government as a cruiser.
