John Schuyler, Jr., took the oath of office October 31st. He was the second son of the late Mayor John Schuyler and Elizabeth Staats, his wife. He was born October 31, 1697. He had nine children, one of whom was the eminent Major-General Philip Schuyler, of revolutionary times. He died November 7, 1746. As there were several Schuylers near this date bearing the name of John, and the records are not very clear, we have given what seemed to us most probably correct. But little is known of him.
