The Bird Griffin (Vogel Grip) Left Gothenburg beginning of November Sailed from the Texel December 29, 1637 Skipper Andrian Joransen Arrived March, 1638 Destination: South River, New Sweden Anthony, a slaveReturn voyage: During a storm in August, 1639, the ship, lying in the harbor at Gothenburg, after its return from New Sweden, "although secured by two anchors...was driven upon sandshoals 1 1/2 fathams deep." The ballast and cannon were removed, but it would not float and it seems that the ship foundered there, for it is mentioned no more.
