The task of transcribing the 1830 census to include in the Cortland Co. GenWeb pages was extremely difficult due to the poor quality of the filmed pages. Larry Mills and Fran Bailey are in the process of performing this for us. Names with one * after the name means that THAT particular name was extremely troublesome, but it matches the 1830 NY census index. Names with 3 stars under the page number column DO NOT match the census index and/or are incomplete. Unreadible names are marked by a _____ in the names field.
Kasia Dane also read the 1830 census to try to resolve the differences. She used 5 different machines to try to accomplish this task. On the right side of the page is her alternate reading of the names. Parentheses around a name indicate she was not totally sure of the name.
For ease of loading, each town comes in 2 or more web pages and will be loaded on an on-going basis.
