Melded families

Disconnected family members are one of the biggest stumbling blocks to genealogy research. This can happen for several reasons, including divorce, remarriage or adoption. Sometimes family members don't even know about the other people. Other times, they know some of the facts, but the records are misleading or incomplete.

This section of the site will attempt to document those individuals. This section will include data on merged families known to researchers. No queries for people possibly still alive will be posted, unless there is an adoption, criminal or medical imperative. WORK IN PROGRESS

If you know of such a situation, please e-mail me with specifics and I will try to add it to this section. Also, if you have an idea for a category that I have left out, please contact me and I will try to add it.

HAMILTON - PADDOCK - FULLER

Laura M. Hamilton, born Oct 1832 Madison Co., NY, is found living in the household of Daniel B. Paddock and his second wife, Content on the 1850 Fed and 1855 State Census of Cortland Co. The relationship in 1855 is shown as "great niece". Content Paddock is Content Hamilton, born 1789. She married 1) Isaac Brown 1809 2) Daniel Beldon Paddock 1840. Untangled, these relationships indicate that Laura Hamilton is a granddaughter of one of Content's five brothers - Elias, Thomas, Alexander, Seymour, or Marvin Moore Hamilton.

Betsey Fuller was also living in the household in 1855. Her relationship is listed as granddaughter, but not sure if she is from the Paddock or Brown family. The Will of Eleazer Fuller (see Cortland Co. Wills) lists a Betsey Fuller as his grand daughter, dtr of deceased son Horace Fuller. Who did Horace Fuller marry? . ROUSE - ROWLEY - SIMMONS - ROBINSON

Simeon Rouse is listed as the head of household on the 1850 census of Cortlandville. He was born in Delaware Co. NY in 1793 and removed to Cortland Co. sometime before the 1830 census.

Living with him are people with 3 different surnames. The first one listed is Celia Rowley, age 27. She was born in Greene Co., the same place Simeon's wife Sabrina was from. Since there is a large gap in the children in the household, I'm wondering if Sabrina was a widow, and Celia is from her previous marr.

Next is Maria Simmons, who is 17 and born in Cortland. No other data on her, but Simmons is my main interest, especially because of the next family.

The last family is the house is Oren Robinson age 37 born Otsego Co. NY. His wife Lewia, Lusia (hard to figure it out), is age 36 born Orange. My Sarah Simons of Cortland Co. married a William/Wilson/Welcome Robinson after they removed to MI and this is the only other time I have seen the families together. Is this Oren the oldest son of Gideon Robinson documented in the Hammond genealogies?
