children info Birth order on children may be wrong as Thankful has no birthdate and Jared and/or Arba's is obviously wrong. Source of information: WFT 7 tree number 2868. Have corrected Arba's to fit into the large gap after Benajah.

Surname also entered as Morse. WFT7 gives it as Moss.

military records. Served as a Captain of a CT unit during the Civil War Dar #87155 and 94828.

birth information for Anna from DAR records #94828. However, that dar records also lists Jacob's death as 1780. Probably should be marraige year.

    (9) Benajah Rice, son of Amos and Sarah (Moss) Rice, was born 16 Mar 1767 in Wallingford, New Haven Co., CT, and married 31 Jan 1793, (19) Sarah Hough.

census information 1800 census Greene Co. NY

location file According to "History of Northern Michigan by Perry F. Powers", Benajah removed to Cortland Co. NY circa 1835. However, he doesn't seem to be listed on the 1840 census index. There is, however, a will for Benajah Rice entered in Cortland Co. will book C.

family information The Powers book identifies Benajah as the 5th son of the family. Since Arba lived well past the 1840 census, I assume that he was younger than Benajah and have moved him into the gap between Benajah and the other children. WFT7 states Arba's birthday as the 18 days after Jared, which is not possible.

    Children:

  • 20*Amos Rice b. 22 Aug 1800

    (11) Arba Rice, son of Amos and Sarah (Moss) Rice, was born in Wallingford, New Haven Co., CT (probably).

census information 1800 Greene Co. NY p 20 1820 Cortland Co. NY Homer 310201-11201 (along with Lyman Rice) 1830 Cortland Co. NY Homer p124 (along with Lyman Rice) - Could this Lyman be his son? Is he the Lyman Rice whose dau Asenath married William L. Thornton, son of Simeon and Lydia (Chapman) Thornton of Onondaga Co. NY.

birth information Birth date given in WFT7 is probably wrong, as he is listed as born 18 days after Jarod. Not only is the timing wrong, but that would make Benajah the 6th child instead of the 5th, as stated in the Powers book. (WFT date=Mar 21, 1763).

    (12) Ira Rice, son of Amos and Sarah (Moss) Rice, was born 22 Mar 1774 in Wallingford, New Haven Co., CT, and married 22 Nov 1796 in Wallingford, New Haven Co., CT, (21) Eunice Rice. Ira died 10 Aug 1844 in Macomb Co., MI. Eunice died 1799/1800 in Probably Walling, New Haven Co., CT.
