Notes for WILLIAM HAIGHT:
"The Haights of Westchester County and Cazenovia" composed by Prof H. S. White of Vassar College. This work can be found at the Syracuse public library. This was a typed manuscript.
William Haight lived in Sing-Sing of Westchester County at the beginning of the Rev War in 1776, having at the time 4 sons and 3 daughters as follows:
William Jr, James, Reuben, Marvel J., Jane (married Thomas Neal), Mariam (married Jacob Wendell), and Amy who married a Dr. Graham.
William Jr., became the father of 7, 4 sons and 3 daughters, but only 4 names are listed:
Reuben and David, who were twins, Jabez and daughter Catherine.
Another paragraph states that William Haight, Jr., was the father of the "Homer" Haights (Obviously referring to the settlement of the Haight family into the East Homer area. So many of them settled there, they named a road, Haights Gulf Road, after them).
The following was taken from handwritten notes made by a Mr. Arthur L. Haight, 613 North 2nd West, Salt Lake City, Utah. He states that his father was a John James Haight born in Cortland Co. and his grandfather was David Haight, son of William, Jr. Written in bad handwriting and not very legibile
" ...preacher Methodist, from <unknown> N.Y. - first to Cazenovia where w. (wife) died leaving 6 children of whom 5 lived + marry + raise families. (M or W - think it is M - abbreviation for marriage) in Cazenovia dau. <unknown> M. Albright a year later moved to Homer. They had 11 children. He took to drink, lost license to preach, after 10-15 years reformed & regained his license. Died 1868 at 94 years."
This information was written by Mr. Haight in 1964, so it is well over 35+ years old.
M. Albright is Maria Albright, daughter of John Albright, first settler of East Homer, New York.
