ALLEN - BERRY - STOCKING - ELLIOTT
Query Text: I am searching for information about Alvira (or Elvira) ALLEN born 1808 in New York and died after 1880 probably in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Alvira married John S. BERRY in Virgil, Cortland, New York about 1828. In the 1880 census of Bradford Co., Pennsylvania it appears that Alvira states her father's place of birth as Vermont; her mother's place of birth is unclear.

John S. BERRY was born 1806 in Guildhall, Essex, Vermont and died after 1870 probably in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. John was the son of John and Elizabeth ELLIOTT Berry. The Berry family was migrating from Vermont to Pennsylvania when they stopped for a spell in Cortland County. They eventually went through Tompkins and Tioga counties of New York before settling in Berrytown, Bradford, Pennsylvania.

John and Alvira ALLEN Berry had children named Malvina, Cevilius, Joseph, George, Julius, Christopher, Patience, Ida, Henrietta, Margaret, Charles and Sarah. Their first son, Cevilius, had a middle name of STOCKING and that may be a clue to Alvira's ancestry. Also, there's an old family story that says Alvira was descended from Ethan ALLEN of Revolutionary War fame, but that connection has never been proven.
Any help with the ancestors of Alvira ALLEN would be much appreciated.
