HACKETT

I'm looking for any records on my maternal grandmothers ancestor - Lott Hackett. According to records I've found, he was born 4/21/1793, married a Nancy Short (b. 6/29/1798) and lived in Cortland County. I'm trying to find out if he was born there, or his parentage. I've found a Lot Hackett on the Marathon 1840 census listing... but records I've found have him in Northern PA around then. Records do say they're unsure if his son Russell was born (6/20/1935) in Cortland Co., or in Northern PA.... (Russell is my great-great grandfather).

Supposedly, Nancy Short was from Cortland County also - and the two of them owned a farm 'there'. Any help or direction to look in would be appreciated. I'm fairly new to this genealogy digging and am unsure where to turn!

HAIGHT

I'm looking for information on James H. Haight. He enlisted in the Civil War on 16 Jan 1864 in Marathon with the 157th. His family settled into the Freetown area in the 1830s, but the censuses of 1840, 1850 & 1860 show them moving about the Cortland Co. area. James' father, James H. Haight, Sr. was buried along with Ada Bouton, James Jr. mother in Cortland. I really need to get birth information that links James Jr. to James Sr. Although it can be inferred that they are related, the name James Haight was very popular. Any information would be appreciated.

HUGHES

I am searching for info on my ancestor, William G. Hughes, who lived in Cortland Co. circa 1860-1870. He married Laura Hamilton about 1860. On the 1850 Fed Census, and the 1855 State Census, Laura is shown living in the household of Daniel and Content (Brown) Paddock. I have done quite a bit on these families, but there is still so much I don't know. Seems like everytime I find the answer to one question, it raises several others. I live in Oklahoma, our resources for NY are very limited, except for the FHC. Thanks for your help.

HUNT

Need information on the family of Asa Hunt of Marathon (b. 1802 CT). In 1860, a Lewis Swift age 38 b. NY is living with him. In 1865, a Sarah Simonds is there, listed as a servant. The fact that ties them all together is that a George Swift, listed 1 page away on the 1860 census deposed in pension file of Lydia (Simonds) Hall, my gr grandmother. In 1850, Asa is in Lapeer. For 1830 and 40, he seems to be in Virgil on the census. Since Lapeer was built out of Virgil, that makes sense.

Asa had 5 children: William E, Lucretia, Louisa, Burnam and Francis. Lucretia m. the Lewis Swift mentioned above, while Louisa married George Swift, also mentioned above. Francis married a Peck.

Any information on this line of the Hunt family would be appreciated. I don't believe he connects to the Japeth Hunt line in the area as they were already in NY a decade before Asa was born in CT. According to the 1855 census, Asa removed to Cortland circa 1827.
