SOUTH DOVER GROUND

CLASSIFICATION: Community ground.
LOCATION: At South Dover (Wingdale).
CONDITION: Well cared for.
INSCRIPTIONS: 204 in number. Copied August 19, 1913, by J. W. Poucher, and Miss Grace L. Jones.
REMARKS: The "First Baptist Church of Dover," organized 1757, built the "Red Meeting House" at South Dover in 1758. This ground lies a little to the west of the site of the meeting house and was probably begun by the meeting house congregation either as a churchyard or a community ground. The first pastor of this church, Samuel Waldo, is buried in this ground.
