WHITE. I'm trying to verify the location of the WHITE family homestead and burial ground in Mabbettsville (once called Filkentown). The farm was originally purchased by Abner White (6th generation descendent of William White, signer of the Mayflower Compact) before 1752. According to a book in my possession: "they were farmers and lived near the four corners of Mabbettsville". This farm became the family homestead for several generations. Abner White willed the farm to his son Charles in 1794. The genealogist author of my book visited the "White Burying-ground" around 1926/27 and gives a fairly detailed description of the location of the homestead, but I won't take up the space here. She goes on to say that "...the burying ground.... is in sight of the house built by Morris White, grandson of Abner and Ruth, and presumably on the site of the original homestead. Miss Maggie Murphy, who owned the place in 1924, said that her family had bought it from Andrew J. White, the son of Morris White, and that her family had lived there 47 years." If anyone has any knowledge of this White homestead and/or burial ground, I would love to hear from you. I am a direct descendent of William White of the Mayflower, and this burial ground and homestead is part of my heritage! My mother, who still lives in Beacon, is not sure where it is or if it's still there. Diane R. Tomlins dtomlins@dianetomlins.com 0797
