Samuel Scribner Jr. and Thomas Leland II were pioneers in Schroon Lake, NY, arriving there about 1795. They were listed as among the first settlers. Their children, John Scribner and Silence Leland, were listed in J.H. French's Gazeteer of NY in 1860 as the first marriage in Schroon. The date was not given, much to my chagrin, for I've been looking for it for quite some time. I think it was about 1804. The Scribners and Lelands moved on westward, but Thomas Leland III stayed in Schroon Lake and the Leland family became one of the best known in the area for the next 100 years or so.

I believe the Tyler's have been in Essex County for Several generations. My father's name was Hugh Allen Tyler (born Feb. 2(?) 1907) died Sep. 1964. Hugh was one of about six brothers and perhaps a sister or two. Hugh's father's name was Wort Tyler. Wort was a guide in the Adirondecks in the later part of the last centruy or the early 1900s. Wort died in the 1930s, and was said to have lived a hermit-like life in a mountain cabin during the last ten years of his life. I do not know Wort's wife's name (my grandmother). There was some mention of an Indian her age in my family, but no specifics are known. We are supposed to have a conection to a Sawyer family in the town of Paul Smiths.
