The following names were found in the 1889 Brooklyn & Long Island Business
Directory (published by LI Publishing Co. 1889/90). The entitled section, "Long
Island Farmers" , lists all those farmers in Kings (excluding the city of Bklyn),
Queens (including present day Nassau) & Suffolk counties who chose to be in the directory. The only information given was the name of the farmer and
the area that he lived in. However, given the absence of an 1890 census, this
can be a very important tool for locating an ancestor's hometown on Long Island.
