Of Cairo

Lewis A. Horton, 90 years of Cairo, New York, passed away December 10, 2004 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, New York.

He was born in Cairo, New York on March 25, 1914, son of the late William and Sylvia (Chappell) Horton. Lewis worked as a general laborer for several contractors before his retirement.

He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Horton and a sister, Marion Shaw.

He is survived by his nephew, Robert Shaw and his wife, Marie, of Greenville, New York; a niece, Arlene DiBello and her husband, Russell, of Greenville, New York and several grand nieces and grand nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was Monday from the Cunningham Funeral Home, Greenville. Friends called at the funeral home Monday prior to the funeral. Interment was in the Freehold Cemetery.

Of Coeymans Hollow

Rosalie Ritchie, 77 of Coeymans Hollow, died Saturday, December 11, 2004 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital. Rosalie was born in Canton, New York and had lived in Coeymans Hollow for 30 years. She worked as a welder for American Thermostat in Cairo and was a member of the Greenville VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, Ceylon B. Ritchie of Coeymans Hollow; sons, Charles Ritchie of Albany and Ceylon J. Ritchie of Coeymans Hollow; three sisters and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 14 at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena, with Rev. Budd Paashaus officiating. Burial will take place in the spring in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, South Bethlehem. Contributions in memory of Rosalie may be made to Greenville VFW Post 3175, Greenville, NY 12083.

Of Hannacroix

Joseph “Lon” Boehlke, Sr., 80, of Dugway Lane, Hannacroix, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn on Friday, December 24, 2004.

Lon was born on the family farm on Stanton Hill, Hannacroix, June 17, 1924 to the late Paul Herman Boehlke, Sr. and Alice Gendreau MacKinnon Boehlke. He lived in that area all of his life. Lon was employed by Suburban Propane in Albany for over 30 years and also owned Boehlke Hardware and Home Gas in Ravena from 1969 to 1974.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, the former Elizabeth “Betty” Finch Boehlke; two sons, Joseph L. (Gail) Boehlke, Jr. of Coeymans and Michael W. (Trish) Boehlke of Frostproof, Florida; two daughters, Paula D. (Tom) Hotaling of Central Bridge, New York and Cindy M. (Robert) Wolf of Latham; eight grandchildren: Jeffrey and Laura Boehlke of Coeymans, Michelle (Joe) Andretta of Athens, and Chad Boehlke of Athens, Jennifer (Chris) Gerkin of Cobleskill and Kelly Hotaling of Albany, Brendan Wolf of Albany and Kristin Wolf of Boston, Massachusetts; seven great-grandchildren, Jennifer Smith, Juliano Rosado, Joey Andretta, Britney Boehlke, Kelsey Boehlke, Elijah Boehlke and Madison Gerkin; three brothers, Frank and Martin of Hannacroix and Jerry of Fairbanks, Alaska; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his canine best friend, Sam, who was always by his side. Lon was predeceased by seven brothers: Orville, Arthur, Chester, Paul, George, Louis, Ernest (Pat) Boehlke, and one sister, Vina Rivers.

Lon was a lifelong communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, Ravena. He was an active member and former president of the New Baltimore Republican Club and a member of the New Baltimore Conservancy. He was also a former Greene County Republican committeeman.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 28 at St. Patrick’s Church, Ravena. Entombment was in St. Patrick’s Mausoleum, Coeymans. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Community Hospice of Albany or St. Patrick’s Church Memorial Fund. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena.

Of Westerlo

Edna Barbara Herrschaft, 89 years, of Westerlo, New York, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2005 at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn in Albany, New York.

She was born in Hicksville, New York, on September 26, 1915, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Goettelman.

She was a dental assistant to Dr. Yoodelman in Hicksville, New York.

Edna and Norman Herrschaft were married in 1939 in Bethpage, New York. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Westerlo. Edna was predeceased by her husband, Norman in 2004.

Surviving are her three children: Wayne Herrschaft, Donna Reichman and Patricia Maurer; four grandchildren, Scott, Michelle, Trevor and Kyle; five great grandchildren, Gaston, Michelle, Gabriel, Hanna and Trevor, Jr.; and two sisters, Patricia Paulus and Jule Goettelman.

A memorial service was held Saturday, January 28 at the First Baptist Church of Westerlo at 12 noon. No calling were held. Spring interment will be held in the Westerlo Rural cemetery at the convenience of the family.
