Diane M. Turon

Diane M. Turon, 63 years, passed away at her home on June 29, 2008. She was born in Hudson, New York on June 21, 1945. She was a systems analyst with IBM in Kingston, New York until her retirement. Diane enjoyed shopping and traveling around to flea markets and craft shows.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Diane was predeceased by her mother, Jane Soule.

Surviving are her husband, Leland Turon of Greenville, New York; her four children, Wendi Merkel, Charles Jacobs, Nicole Jacobs and Tara Turon; seven grandchildren, John and Jason Calderon, Kent Statlander, Jake, Jessica and Jordan Jacobs, and Aaliyah Glover; three great-grandchildren ad a special aunt and uncle, Virgie and John Taylor.

As to her wishes she was cremated, and there will be a memorial service art a later date at the convenience of the family.

Lawrence Joseph Byrne

Lawrence Joseph Byrne, 77 years of East Durham, New York, (formerly of Queens, New York) passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 in the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, New York. He was born in Queens, New York on September 8, 1930, son of the late Lawrence and Helen (Bull) Byrne.

Lawrence was a corrections officer with NYS Dept. of Corrections for 28 years. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Knock Shrine. He was Past Grand Knight of Our Lady of Knock Council No. 6439 Knights of Columbus.

Lawrence was predeceased by an infant son and a son, John Byrne,; three brothers, Joseph, Michael and John Byrne; and two sisters, Mary Lynch and Teresa Rouse.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Agnes Byrne of East Durham, New York; his seven children, Eileen Byrne, Lawrence Byrne, Timothy Byrne, Kathleen Byrne, Dennis Byrne, Michael Byrne and Christopher Byrne; 14 grandchildren, four sisters, Sr. Eileen Byrne, Helen Byrne, Emily Whitbeck and Kathleen Byrne; four brothers, Peter, Xavier, Enda and Patrick Byrne; also nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was Thursday, July 10, from the Cunningham Funeral Home, Greenville, New York, with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Knock Shrine. Friends called at the funeral home on Wednesday. Interment was in the Greenville Cemetery.

Those who wish may contribute in Lawrence’s memory to Our Lady of Knock Shrine.

Janice A. Cronk

Janice A. Cronk, 66 of Ravena, entered eternal life Saturday, July 5, 2008 after a long illness. Janice had worked many years for the NYS Senate in Albany and was a member of the Congregational Christian Church, Ravena.

Survivors include her son, Matthew (Melanie) Schwabrow of Ravena; sister, Murilene Cronk of Greenville; grandsons, Bryan and Tyler Schwabrow; and one niece, two nephews, two great-nieces and two great-nephews.

Janice was predeceased by her parents, Murrell and Anna Cronk.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 12 at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravenna. Burial was in Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore.

Margaret S. Duffek

Margaret S. Duffek, 84 of Greenville, New York, formerly of Queens, new York, passed away July 2, 2008, at the Resurrection Nursing Home in Catleton, New York. She was born in Maspeth, New York, on March 29, 1924, daughter of the late Michael and Margaret (Wince) Larko.

Margaret had been employed by Greenville Central School where she worked in the cafeteria. A friend to all, she will be missed by her family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles J. Duffek in 1996.

Surviving are her daughter, Margaret Lenart (William) of Greenville, New York; a grandson, Derek Lenart; a brother, Michael Larko; a sister, Anna Lane; a niece and two nephews.

Funeral service was Monday, July 7 from the Cunningham Funeral Home, Greenville, New York, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church. Friends called at the funeral home on Sunday. Interment was in the Greenville Cemetery. Those who desire may contribute in her memory to the Greene County Meals on Wheels Program.

James M. Ferriere

James Martin Ferriere, 54 of New Baltimore, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2008 at Albany Medical Center after a long illness. He was born July 6, 1953 in Catskill to the late Nicolas and Elizabeth Ferriere.

Jim graduated from RCS High School in 1971 and was employed by Conrail for over 20 years as a conductor, later becoming an engineer for Canadian Pacific Railroad. Jim was a former member of the New Baltimore Cornell Hook & Ladder Fire Department and a current member of the R-C Sportmen’s Club. He loved the outdoors and was passionate about hunting, fishing and gardening.

Survivors include his daughters, Kelly (David) Kolby of Florida, Laurie (Clayton) Rivers of Earlton and Crystal Ferriere of Florida; fiancé, MaryJane VanSlyke of Ravena; brothers, Gary Ferriere of Hudson and Nicolas Ferriere of New Baltimore; sister, Susan Haley of Florida; grandchildren, Matthew, Clayton, Tyler, Connor, Trevor, Ryan, Brianna, Logan and Lilyanna; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and longtime friends. Jim was predeceased by his brothers, Phillip and William (Billy) Ferriere.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 10 at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena.

Shirley B. Ingalls

Shirley B. Ingalls, 77 years, of Norton Hill, New York, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 12, 2008 with her loving husband by her side.

She was born March 13, 1931 in Oak Hill, New York, daughter of the late Alfred and Elizabeth (Griffin) Burnett. She graduated from Greenville Central School in 1948. She received a degree from Mildred Elley Business School.

She worked as a secretary for GNH Lumber for many years. Shirley worked for many years in the US Postal Service. The last four years she was Postmaster of the Norton Hill Post Office before her retirement in 1992. Shirley was also very active in the Greenville-Norton Hill UM Church. She loved singing and sang for over 50 years. She was a secretary/treasurer for the Greenville Library Board.

Shirley is survived by her childhood sweetheart and beloved husband of 58 years, Walter H. Ingalls; their children, Kaaren (Kurt) Haushalter, Kevin (Karen) Ingalls, Krista (Carl) Haushalter and Kay (Eric) Sutton. She was a devoted grandmother to Sommer, Jason (Lisa), Jacob, Laura (Tim), Rebecca, Aubrey and Walter and great-grandmother to Jacob Richard. Shirley is also survived by many nieces and nephews and several dear cousins including Betty Gustavson and Sis Rasmussen.

A memorial service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held on Saturday, July 26 at 2pm in the Greenville-Norton Hill United Methodist Church in Norton Hill.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirley’s memory to the Greenville-Norton Hill U.M. Church.

Virginia Mae Klimpel

Virginia Mae Klimpel, 81 of Racine, Wisconsin, passed away at her residence on April 22, 2008. She was born in South Westerlo, New York on September 27, 1926, daughter of the late Rueben and Millicent (Willsey) Swartout. On December 25, 1950 she married Robert W. Klimpel. He preceded her in death on July 30, 1985.

She is survived by daughters, Karen Nelson and Pamela (Phillip) Rainwater, both of Racine; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service to which family and friends were invited was held on Saturday, July 12, at the Greenville Cemetery.

Arrangements were by the Cunningham Funeral Home, Greenville, New York.

John L. Walters

John L. Walters, 79 years, of Westerlo, New York, passed away at his home on Thursday, July 17, 2008. He was born in Greenwich, Connecticut, on April 7, 1929, son of the late Frederick and Elsie (Olson) Walters, John served his country during the Korean War in the US Navy.

John was employed as a laborer with the Albany County Highway Department in Westerlo, New York until his retirement. He was a member of the VFW Post in Connecticut. He loved hunting, fishing, his friends, country music and his “LOTTO”. John also loved to fly and work on planes.

John was predeceased by his companion of 26 years, Helen Lewandoski; four brothers, David, Richard, George and Fred Walters and a sister, Elsie Nebel.

Surviving are two brothers, Charles and Robert Walters; and three sisters, Ethel Brower, Irene Scheck and Helen White; three stepsons, Wayne and Henry Lewandoski and Joseph Lewin and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services was Monday, July 21, at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville. Friends called at the funeral home on Sunday.

Interment was in the Rensselaerville Cemetery.

Randy Gifford

Randy Gifford, 51, of Greenville, New York, passed away suddenly in the town of Durham. He was born in Catskill, New York on October 23, 1956, son of Richard Gifford (Mary Ann) of Greenville, New York and Carolyn (Burnett) Bullinger of Williamsport, Tennessee.

Randy was a well-known building contractor, known for his excellent workmanship. He attended the Greenville-Norton Hill U.M. Church. He was a friend to all he met and would help anyone in need. He will be missed by his family and friends.

He was predeceased by his son Jesse Ryan Gifford on July 14, 2002.

Surviving besides his parents is his fiancé, Sally Ann Asaro; two brothers, Andrew Gifford (Teresa), Donald Gifford; three sisters, Deborah Boyd (Phil), Sandra Grigg (Gary) and Bonnie Ralston; uncles, Jack Gifford and Ogden Saddlemire; aunt, Shirley Fernandez; also several nieces and nephews.

As to his request he was cremated at the Albany Rural Cemetery. Interment was at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements were by the Cunningham Funeral Home, Greenville, New York.
