A committee was appointed to converse with Sarah, the wife of Thomas Place. She had renounced her covenant vows and had joined a sect called ‘Smithites’. This case occupied the session at a number of meetings. On Feb 8 1821, Mrs. Place appeared before them and aired her doctrinal views. No progress having been made towards her reclamation, she was admonished, on May 1821. She was admonished again on Feb 4 1823. Her case was before the session as late as Apr 15 1824. But the final step of excommunication was not recorded. |

Truman Cheritree excommunicated. Note: The case of Truman Cheritree and Stephen Fisher Cheritree had been before the church for some years. They had attended public balls and refused to partake of the Lord’s Supper. The case of Stephen Fisher Cheritree was under discussion at the meetings on May 25 1819, Mar 20 1820, May 18 1821, & Aug 31 1823. He appears to have escaped from suspension. In Apr 1823 he was again summoned before the church for absenting himself from the Lord’s Supper, and finally in 1828, having added intoxication to his other faults, he was suspended. |

Note: On July 9 1817, while under suspension, he appeared before the session and entered a complaint against his wife, Amy Lake, who had abandoned his house and home on the night of June 29th, taking with her various articles of clothing, furniture, etc. At a meeting on Aug 28th, they both appeared and confessed that they had been guilty of unchristian conduct toward each other and promised to forgive each other and to live in peace together. |
