Postscript:
In the "History of the Town of Jewett" by Elwood Hitchcock, he states that a newspaper clipping, dated November 21, 1904, gives a copy of the deed dated September 26, 1798:
"Laban Andrews and Prudence, his wife, convey to Isaac Miles, Henry Goslee and Munson Buell, Committee to receive the deed, for the benefit of the good people of the town of Windham, for a burying ground, a plot nine (9) rods square, being a part of lot 69 of the Tomlinson and Day Patent, the the town of Windham, to hold, for the benefit of the people of the Town of Windham. It is situated on the north side of the road leading from Batavia to the Schoharie Kill, near Ichabod Andrews' place and opposite the junction of a road." According to Mr. Hitchcock, this deed is found in the County Clerk's office of Ulster County at Kingston, New York, in the Book of Religious Corporations, Page 76, and is dated September 26, 1798. The first church was located near this cemetery.

According to Beers' History of Greene County, Amos Rice, who died May 1, 1794,aged 30 years, was the youngest of four brothers who emigrated to Jewett and while clearing a piece of land was killed by a falling tree. As there was no cemetery established in that area at the time, he was buried by the local people in as "good a spot as could be found". Later, his remains were exhumed and reburied in the Jewett Heights Cemetery.
