Public Records of African Americans sold as slaves
Know all men by these presents that I HENRY OSTERHOUDT of
the town of Catskill in the County of Albany, NY for and in consideration
of the sum of eighty pounds lawful money of New York to me paid before the
dealing and delivery of these presents by WILLIAM BRANDOW of the town aforesaid,
the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge, have bargained and sold and by
these presents do bargain and sell unto the said William Brandow a certain Negro
man called FRANS aged twenty seven years which negro man is now in the
posession of said William Brandow to have and to hold the said negro man by
these presents bargained and sold unto the said William Brandow his executors,
administrators and assigns, and the said Henry Osterhoudt for myself, my
executors, administrators the said negro man Frans unto the said William Brandow
his executors, administrators and assigns against me the said Henry Osterhoudt
my executors, administrators and assigns and against all and every other person
whatsoever shall and will warrant and defend by these presents.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the twenty-fifth
day of November One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Four (1794).
