Last Will and Testament of Helen L. Clough

I, Helen L. Clough, of Athens, Greene County, New York, being of sound mind and memory, but mindful of the uncertainty of human life, do make this as my last Will and Testament in manner following, that is to say:-

First:- I direct my executrices hereinafter named to pay all my funeral, and Testamentary expenses and debts as soon after my decease as convenient:

Second: I give, devise and bequeath my dwelling house and lot situate on Warren Street in the Village of Athens, New York and all contents therein contained as household furniture beds and bedding and household effects and clothing to my beloved sisters Hattie Whitteker and Ida May Perry, excepting and reserving therefrom however some silver spoons marked R. C to be given to Mrs Ollie French and some silver spoons marked J. S. C to be given to Mr Archie Clow, and I hereby direct that the same be delivered to them by my said executrices or the survivor of them. And in the event of the death of either of my said sisters before my decease, I hereby give and devise the share or portion hereby devised to my said sisters to the survivor of them in said dwelling house and lot, household furniture beds & bedding etc.

Third:- I give, devise and bequeath to Zions Evangelical Lutheran Church of Athens, N. Y. the sum of Fifty ($50.00) Dollars.

Fourth:- I give, devise and bequeath to Hartwick Seminary, Hartwick Seminary, Otsego County, N. Y. the sum of Fifty ($50.00) Dollars.

Fifth:- I give, devise and bequeath to my beloved sister Sarah A. Hull the sum of Five Hundred ($500.00) Dollars.

Sixth:- I give, devise and bequeath to my beloved brother Frank H. Uline the sum of One hundred ($100.00) Dollars.

Seventh:- I give devise and bequeath to my neice[sic] Matie Carr my silver ice pitcher and the sum of One Hundred ($100.00) Dollars.

Eighth:- I give, devise and bequeath to my nephew William Knowlton the sum of One Hundred ($100.00) Dollars.

Ninth: I give, devise and bequeath to my nephew Harris H. Hull the sum of One hundred ($100.00) Dollars.

Tenth: I give, devise and bequeath to my great-nephew Harold Whitteker the sum of Fifty ($50.00) Dollars.

Eleventh: I give, devise and bequeath to my great neice[sic] Carrie Deitz the sum of Fifty ($50.00) Dollars.

Twelfth:- I give, devise and bequeath to my brother-in-law, Thomas W. Perry the sum of One hundred ($100.00) Dollars.

Thirteenth: I give, devise and bequeath to Mrs Edna Crigley, neice[sic] of my late husband Jacob S Clough, the sum of Twenty-Five ($25.00) Dollars, and my silver Cake basket.

Fourteenth:- I give, devise and bequeath to the Mount Hope Cemetery Association of Athens, New York, the sum of Fifty ($50.00) the same to be invested by said association in some safe interest bearing securities allowed by laws of the State of New York and the interest and income therefrom to be used by said Cemetery Association for the perpetual care of the Cemetery Lot of Jacob S. Clough deceased, and the monuments erected thereon.

Fifteenth:- All the rest, residue and remainder of my property of every name and kind and wheresoever the same may be situated, I give, devise and bequeath to my beloved sisters Hattie Whitteker and Ida May Perry, equally share and share alike, and in the event of the death of either of my said sisters before my decease, then and in that event, I give, devise and bequeath the share or portion so going to the one of my sisters who may die to the survivor of them.

Sixteenth:- I hereby nominate and appoint my beloved sisters Hattie Whitteker and Ida May Perry the executrices of this my last Will and Testament, giving and granting unto my said executrices full power and authority to sell and convey any and all of my said property for the purposes of carrying out the provisions of this my last Will and Testament and full power and authority to settle and compromise any and all claims in favor of or against my said Estate, and hereby revoking all former wills by me made, and I direct that no bonds be required of my said executrices in the settlement and management of my Estate.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 9th day of September 1918.

Signed, Sealed, Published and Declared by the said Testatrix to be her last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have signed our names hereto at her request and in her presence and in the presence of each other this 9 day of September 1918.
