ALLEN

Iris Lillie 17 Jul 1998
From information on the death certificate of her daughter, I have come to believe that Nancy Samantha ALLEN was born in Jefferson Co NY. She was born June 16, 1836. I believe her father to be Hopestill (possibly George) ALLEN, that removed his family to Wisconsin around 1845. He had at least three, and maybe more children born in NY before they moved. He and his wife, also a Nancy, but last name unknown, are listed as being born in CT in the 1850 Wisconsin census, that lists their children as Evaline 34, Mary E. 19 and Nancy 14 all born in NY. Nancy Samantha married a Joseph B. OLDS born July 26, 1830, again listed from Jefferson Co NY, a wedding date of Dec 16, 1858 with both children born in Wisconsin.
Do you know of any way for me to get any proofs of Nancy's birth, because I also have a bit of information listing her birth place as York, NY and I can not find any York in Jefferson Co.
Thank you for any help.

ALLEN

Hortense Wilkinson 18 Jul 1998
Seeking information about Benjamin Allen who married (1) Amy Wood, (2) Mary Rawson, and his family. He was living at Watertown by 1810. Believed to have died there about 1815. Also need information about his son, Ira Allen born 1791 in Vermont. Ira Allen married probably at Watertown between 1816 to 1819, Hannah Waters and lived there before moving to Ohio and Indiana. Need their marriage place and date. One of Benjamin Allen's daughters, Rebecca, married Joseph Hinds. Oscar Hinds believed to have been living in Watertown prior to 1930 is believed to be a descendant of Benjamin Allen. Hortense Wilkinson

ANGEL/ANGELL

Diane L. (Angell) Woodard 05 Jul 1998 11:26:57
I am working on family history of the Angells. Some of the last names in the Gazetter list them as Angels. My great-great-great grandfather, George Angell drowned in 1827 in the town of Lyme, Jefferson, NY. I am trying to find out if George Angell was maybe married twice. I have him listed as married to a Polly Newell. But now I have found a George Angell who was married to a Rhobe Payne. My George would have drowned in the town of Lyme-Point Peninsula in the year of 1827. Anyone have ideas on where to look as to whom George was married?

Thank-you.

ANGELL

Diane L. (Angell) Woodard 21 Jul 1998
My name is Diane L. (Angell) Woodard. My gggg-grandfather, George Angell was in Pt. Pennsula-Lyme, Jefferson County in the 1820s. He drowned in Lake Ontario in 1827 while going to Sacketts. He had at least ten children according to the book,"Follow the North Shore". We do have a problem on just who his wife was at the time, it was either Polly Newell or Rhobe Payne. Cannot find any info on this. Got any ideas?? My ggg-grandfather was Samuel Angell and he had a brother by the name of David. Was wondering if the David already on Early Settlers list would be one and the same. Have a lot of information on the following descendants if anyone would be interested. Thank-you, Diane. Own e-mail address is: Angell_1972@yahoo.com

ARNOLD

Mark Wentling 12 Jan 1999
Looking for information on the ancestors of Sally Arnold, b.c. 1822 in NY, d. 1898 in Alexandria, Jefferson Co., NY, m. John Shields of England. Her father was supposedly Peleg Arnold whose mother was Phebe Dyer. By 1820, Peleg Sr. & Peleg Jr., plus Peleg Sr's brother Henry, and their brother Edward, plus Edward's son Samuel are listed in the census as residents of Jefferson Co.
These brothers are listed as children of Caleb Arnold and Phebe Dyer in the William Arnold Memorial (which fits the family tradition of Phebe Dyer as Sally's grandmother), but the William Arnold Memorial has conflicting information regarding the recorded Peleg (b.1770/1771?) descendants of Caleb Arnold and Phebe Dyer. It lists their son Peleg as dying in 1816 -- 6 years before Sally was born.
Can anyone help me out on this one? Any information -- even on other Pelegs to help me keep them all straight -- would be most appreciated! : )
Thanks in advance!

BARROWS

Christopher Lyttle 07 Dec 1998
Do you have pieces to add to this puzzle?
Family of Samuel BARROWS Jr.
Samuel BARROWS, Jr , son of Samuel BARROWS and Barbara ANDERSON, was born in 1764 at Middleboro, Plymouth, Massachusetts. He and Azubah Ransom, daughter of John RANSOM and Deborah LESTER, were married in 1794. He died in 1842 at Russell, St. Lawrence, New York.
He saw military service in 1780 in Capt. Abner BOURN's company of Massachusetts militia. He was head of household on the census of 1810 at Woodstock, Windsor County, Vermont. By 1819 he lived at Hounsfield, Jefferson County, New York, where he was head of household on the census in 1820 and 1830. He bought property at Hounsfield, Jefferson County, New York, from Elisha CAMP in 1831, and sold it to Rev. Hezekiah FIELD in 1833. Azubah RANSOM was probably born between 1765 and 1775. She bought property at Williamstown, Town of Pamelia, Jefferson County, New York, in 1846, and sold it in 1848. Her date of death and place of burial are unknown. Children of Samuel BARROWS, Jr. and Azubah RANSOM were:
i. Deborah BARROWS was born on 24 Mar 1795 at Woodstock, Vermont. She and Elder Shubael LITTLE, son of George LITTLE and Esther Cole WHITTAKER, were married on 4 Apr 1819 at Hounsfield, Jefferson County, New York, by Rev. Hezekiah FIELD. She died on 22 May 1855 at age 60. She was buried at Sanford's Corner Cemetery, Le Ray, Jefferson County, New York.
Based on the US Census records, there were probably three other children:
ii. Male, born 1796-1800.
iii. Male, born 1804-1810.
iv. Female, born 1810-1815.

H. 1928.
Would you have this book in your library or know of anyone who does? 'Call number in Newberry Library, Chicago # 7 03912 (not exactly sure of call number--print is hard to read. The 7 is clear next # is not 3912 is clear.)
I am still searching the same family but new information tells me that Parker Chase and Abigail Chase Travioli were sister and brother not father and daughter. I am seeking confirmation of information. Source says they were the children of Abraham Chase and Abigail Redford Cogswell who were trustees in the church and go back to Aquila Chase.
I hope I am not too wordy.
Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
Virginia Watson aka Chatsmimi@aol.com

Sometime between 1845 and 1847 the family came to Michigan. Alfred died in Essex Twp., Clinton Co., Michigan, on 15 August 1847, according to his probate file. He was born 18 September 1800, possibly in Vermont. He was married first and had two children, Ezra (c. 1824) and Delana (c. 1827). He then married Diana Anderson (c. 1804 - 3 May 1873). They had 5 children, James Duane (1835-1916), Wilson Marshall (1838-1905), Rosana (c. 1838- ?), Sanford L. (c. 1842 - ?), and John C. (c. 1845- ?). I would appreciate any information about the family there, particularly any information on the wife of Alfred, Diana ANDERSON, such as her parentage, etc.

N. Y. where she was born Jan. 6, 1835 to Daniel and Letti Bullock. Morgan H. Davis is listed in the 1860 census with Catherine and Ella, his age is listed as 29 but Catherine's and Ella's is correct. The census lists his place of birth as Warren Co. The next information I have is the 1860 Methodist Episcopal Church Annual Conference minutes page 211 which list Morgan Davis as being admitted as a minister. The following Annual Conference minutes lists him through 1871. I know he was in Whitesville, N. Y. in 1869 when my Grandfather Fredrick Morgan Davis was born on July 9th. I know that Morgan H. then moved his family to Hamilton, Ontario where he held charges until he returned to the USA and held the charge in Millington, Michigan where he died on Dec. 18, 1883. Morgan H. also had at least one brother named Herbert who my mother remembered meeting. I would appreciate it if you could give me some assistance in finding out who his parents were.

GREEN

Barb Bloom 4 Oct 1998
I am researching my gg Grandfather, Henry Green. He was born approx 1789 and married Mary Ann Silver in Cape Vincent N.Y. in 1834. There are about 18 different Henry Green's mentioned in the 1820 census records as per FTM cd 314.
I am hoping to find any info on Henry Green that has Mary Ann recorded as his wife. I would like to find his parents names and if possible the country of origin, as I don't have a lead on that yet.

GROW

Good morning, I have a query for Jefferson County for the name Grow. While researching my family name in Fulton, New York, I came across a marriage announcement. I was wondering if anyone who could be related to this Grow could contact me with information on him. I have relatives that I know were in St Lawrence Co, but my relative is Joseph Grow and he was born about 1875. He moved to Fulton, NY, some time in the 20s. Anything would be helpful.
Thanks Kristin Grow DeCare

GROWER

Colette Grower 7 Mar 1999
John George GROWER born in Germany, settled in Jefferson County, ending up in the LaFargeville area. He came in 1831 with a girl (possibly Regina Grower), John GROWER and a son Emmanuel Gotteleib. Emmanuel married Caroline PHILLIPS. Emmanuel and Caroline have a son Alfred Delancy who married Elizabeth BURT. They had Frank, Curtis and Earl. Curtis married Edith Mae NELSON and they had John Grower (my husband's father).
I would like to know who John George GROWER's wife was and if she came with him or died in Germany. And what did they do for a living?
I wish contact with anyone who has knowledge of this family.

GROWER, SCHWAB, SCHRADER

Colette Grower 8 Oct 1998
Hi. I live in Alaska and come from NY. My husband's family is from the Rome Utica area. He was born in Rome. His relative John George Grower came from Wittenburg Germany in the 1830-50s. He first went to Cape Vincent, NY. How can I find out if there is information in town about how he got there? It is interesting because my family is Schwab and Schrader from Utica. They were also German and I came across some mention of Cape Vincent with them. I would like to know who came with Grower and if his wife died in Germany? Who were his parents? A tall order. But a Rome Newspaper article places him in Cape Vincent first.
Thanks
All the Germans seem to come around the same time. Cape Vincent seems awfully far from the big east coast ports.

GROWER

Colette Grower 11 Aug 1998
I am looking for information on my husband's family. John George Grower was born January 17, 1797. He came here from Germany in 1831. With him came Emmanuel Gotteleib, a girl and John. The first town he settled in was Cape Vincent NY. I have just bare info on the family. I don't know if his wife came with him. I don't know what the girl's name was. I can't seem to find the ship they came on or how they got here. I would like to get in touch with town historian in Cape Vincent to see if they have any info on the family. We are now in Alaska and it is hard to research from here, although computers make it easier.

HELMER, DOLLINGER

Donald Dollinger 20 Nov 1998
I am tracing my family roots and would like further (newer) info on the following names: Helmer - This is my wife's maiden name and we believe that Nellie Hagan could possibly be an off-shoot and of where we need to go...If Nellie is the old gal that was a resident of Watertown in later years and was called "Witch of Watertown" because of her eccentricities then she is my wife's grandfather's sister or half-sister as we understand it...His name is Maurice Helmer and although quite old now, he is still alive and living and in Watertown...
Dollinger - This is my name and my great grandparents owned the Dollinger Hotel in Alexandria Bay...My great grandfather left her and the area to move to Rochester area and she remained in Alex Bay until her death in the mid to late 1960's...
My grandfather (Wallace Dollinger) lived his later years and died on Wellesley Island in the late 1980's...He also lived in Watertown and also owned a gas station on Wellesley Island (above Anchor Motor Freight) when my father was a child...
Any info that can be provided would be greatly appreciated...
Thanx...

Would appreciate anything you can do to help.

HOLLOWAY, METCALF

19 Feb 1999
I am researching my family tree. My great grandfather, William H. Metcalf, was born at Sackets Harbor. His father was Henry Ashby Metcalf. I have a photo of a Lib Holloway, who allegedly was Keeper of the Ships at Sackets Harbor, reportedly the first woman to hold that position. The photo, exposed sometime between 1880-1910, at I.S. Hawke, Hubbard block, Watertown, NY, shows a woman about 70-80 years old. The photo's inscription said she was the great aunt of my great grandfather, William H. Metcalf. Any information on Lib Holloway? I'd certainly appreciate any assistance. Also, Henry Ashby Metcalf was Union soldier, assigned to A Co., 10th Heavy Artillery. He was a fifer and I have a photo of him and an unknown drummer, both in full regalia. Henry Ashby Metcalf was married to a Hannah (?) by which they had several kids. I know that the family came from the Clayton/Fisher's Landing area, and before that Alexandria, Thousand Island Park, St.Lawrence Park and Watertown have been mentioned in years past
Perhaps someone will see a familiar name and help me decipher this puzzle
These are the families that I am looking for:

KEECH

Dan Touse 14 Nov 1998
I have an affadavit dated 16 Sept 1879, Jefferson Co, in which Albert KEECH of Fredericksburgh, Ontario, Can, testifies in support of his sister-in-law's petition for widow's pension from War of 1812, in which her husband John Keech served. Albert indicates he is in Jefferson Co at that time to visit his son, and a brother.
Does anyone have info to this Keech family, or easy access to 1880 census?
Albert's Keech family had settled in Town of Western, Oneida Co, shortly after 1810.
Three of his bros in War of 1812, and, on a second march to protect Sackett's Harbor in 1814, Albert's father, James Keech, Sr, then a 70 yr old Rev vet, marched with his sons.
Any info welcome. Thank You, Dan

LAFARGE, BINSSO

Audrey Annable Franklin 12 Jan 1999
I am looking for information on John de LaFarge/LaFarge who arrived in Jefferson County about 1824 and claimed ownership of Penet Square. He subdivided and sold the land to farmers, but was not loved a whole lot because the squatter "catfishers" thought it was already their land. He built a house which he abandoned on Perch River when the "Catfishers" of Penet Square kept shooting at it. He then built a Mansion which, I believe, still stands in ruins. He was also the first postmaster at LaFargeville prior to 1828. I have information he was a Napoleonic soldier from Havre, France who had resided in New Orleans before going to Jefferson Cty. He married Louisa Binnso d/o Dr. John Binsso of Watertown. They left Jefferson County and moved to NYC 1837-1840. I would appreciate any information on the de LaFarge/LaFarge family.

CALEB LEWIS b. 1771 d. 1842 Theresa, Jefferson co. NY. wife was Mary....... I am descended through their daughter Silva who married THOMAS CONLEY. I believe there was another daughter named SOPHONIA although this is only family info. I do know that Caleb & his wife Mary moved to Jefferson Co. from Herkimer Co about 1820. I also believe that Caleb had a brother named Matthew Lewis and the 1850 census indicates that he was born in Rhode Island. I need the parents of Caleb and of his wife Mary for DAR application.

MANLEY, GOODRICH

Mark Wentling 28 Sep 1998
I have a Bible from 1812 inscribed "Property of Lydia Goodrich" that contains an obituary of the "youngest son of Merrick A. and Irene Manley" of Hounsfield. I am trying to determine the relationship between the two families.
In the early 1800's, Bailey Goodrich, previously of Wethersfield, Connecticut, and Sandisfield, Massachusetts, moved to Jefferson Co., NY, and records indicate that he brought with him four daughters: Eunice, Polly, Theodotia and Lydia. Eunice married George Eckert and Lydia, a spinster, lived out her days on their farm in the town of Orleans. Does anyone know what happened to the sisters Theodotia and Polly (probably also called Mary)??? I believe that one of them may have married Asa Manley, of the town of Hounsfield, Jefferson Co., NY, whose family was also previously of Wethersfield, CT, and Sandisfield, MA. Asa Manley was the father of Merrick A. Manley of that town. Asa's daughter, Emeline, b. 1810, married Robert Washburn, of Hounsfield, and they had children named Theodore and Lydia.
Thanks!

Is there anyone out there from the family of William or Willie MARTIN who was a sheriff in Antwerp, NY around 1932?
Robert and Mary Martin

MARTIN

Brian D. Martin 19 Aug 1998
Searching for information on Albert King MARTIN. He was from Antwerp, NY and was most likely born around 1880. In 1903 he married Pearl Mae Harris of Point Peninsula, Jefferson Co. She was born 6/11/1881 and died in January of 1981. She is buried in the North Watertown Cemetery. Her parents were Lonson Dyer Harris (b.6/8/1856 d.8/21/1936) and Effie E. Orchard (b.1/27/1892 d.8/24/1935). They had three children that survived to adulthood, Charles Lonson, Ray Bert and Paul Clifford. Albert worked for the railroad, probably the NY Central. In 1915 he deserted his family and we believe went to Pennsylvania. We do know he had a brother or brother-in-law that was a Jefferson Co. sheriff around 1930. From the 1890 Child's Gazetteer I found a John Martin and a Samuel Martin that both lived in Antwerp and had grandchildren named Albert that were close to the right age. Any information on locating him and his ancestors is greatly appreciated.

McKEE

Renee L. McKee Wilde 28 Aug 1998
Inquiring about surname of McKee. What I know is Sylvester George McKee was born in Lorraine, Jefferson County, New York 11-7-1823, moving to Stirling, Ontario, Canada about 1845. Married Arwilda Elizabeth Thrasher, about the same time frame. She died in December 1855 or 1856 of Consumption, according to her obituary, leaving her parents, William and Elizabeth Thrasher, her husband and four children. I know the names of two of those children, but cannot find anything more about the other two children. Sylvester George McKee later married Irene H. Mosher/Moshier in about 1857. They moved to Burnside Township, Lapeer County, Michigan in about 1866 and had six more children.

OLDS, ALLEN

Iris 21 Aug 1998
I have no other information on Joseph OLDS in the way of parents or siblings. Do you know of any way for me to get any proofs of Joseph's birth, because I also have a bit of information listing his birth place as North Whiney, NY and I can not find that anywhere in NY. I can't help but wonder if they meant North Wilna in Jefferson Co.
Thank you for any help.

PECK

Brenda-Hare 19 Sep 1998
John H. PECK was born in Watertown 1828.
I did find that (another) John PECK was an early settler of Jefferson County, settling in Rodman in 1803. This John PECK was also a Revolutionary War Soldier, and is buried in Rodman. John Peck (1747-1830), enlisted as a private, 1777, in Capt. Abel Pettibone's company. He was ensign in Col. Samuel Canfield's regiment, 1781, for service on the Hudson. He was born at Stratford, CT and died at Waterville, NY. He is buried with his wife, Mary (BROOKS) PECK in Rodman, Jefferson County, NY.

I did find this John PECK in the 1810 and 1820 census in Rodman. In the 1820 and 1825 census I found my ancestor's father, William PECK. By 1830, both John and William were not shown in the census, probably because John was dead by the time of the census.

I would like to make contact with other Jefferson County PECK researchers. I also found evidence of the following PECK's, but need help in determining exactly who they were (except for John PECK.)

PECK, ALLEN WILNA

PRESTON

Albert R. Gordon 02 Dec 1998
I am seeking any information on the family of Jeremiah PRESTON and his wife (Sophia?) who were located in Brownville, Jefferson Co., NY in the 1820 census. Jeremiah PRESTON would have been born between 1780-90 and his wife between 1794 and 1800. The 1820 census shows a family of 5 children. I believe the youngest of the daughters might have been named Sophronia Preston, born about 1817 while the younger two sons might have been named Levi PRESTON and Jeremiah PRESTON (Jr.). These sons may have been twins, both born about 1818.
In the 1830 census, this family is located in Erie Co., PA with four more sons added, the oldest of this group named James J. PRESTON, born about 1822. I have not been able to locate this family after 1830 although I believe Sophronia and her three brothers that are named above remained in northwestern PA until after the 1850s.
I have not been able to identify the parents of my gr-gr-gr grandmother Sophronia Preston, born in NY abt 1817, who seems to fit well into this family and their migration from NY to PA and her marriage to Joseph Shackleford KEAN in 1835. Any help is much appreciated.

ROGERS

Maryl 31 Oct 1998
I'm researching a James ROGERS who brought his son Philip ROGERS (b. 15 Aug 1812 in Co Louth, Ireland) to Watertown, Jefferson Co, NY, USA as a child (sometime between 1812 and 1832).
James' wife was Catherine McGREGOR and other possible children were sons Michael and/or Milton. Phil and his brothers left Watertown about 1832 for Chicago, IL. James and Catherine may be buried near Watertown. They were probably Roman Catholic.
More info is on my webpage: http://www.avana.net/~mhook
Questions: What RC church in Watertown would James have used? What cemetery might Jim and Cate be buried in? Would there be church records?
Thanks for any help.
Hope to hear from anyone who sees a connection.

ROSS, LUDDINGTON

MR MARTIN J LAWLOR 28 Feb 1999
I am searching for the family of John T. ROSS and his wife Harriet LUDDINGTON. John T. ROSS was born June 22, 1833 in New Haven, CT, the son of Asa Bishop ROSS and Mary PRIME. He marr. Harriet LUDDINGTON Nov. 26, 1857 in New Haven, CT. Sometime after 1860 he moved from New Haven. In his mother's will dated 1885 he was living in Watertown, NY. He was listed in the 1885 and 1891 Watertown City Directory and was an oyster dealer (his occupation in New Haven) at 45 Arsenal St. I believe that he may have had two daughters, possibly more children. The 1891 city directory is the last piece of information I have on him. He is brother of my gr-grandmother, Julia (Ross) Hollister and I would be interested in contacting any of his descendants.

RUPP

Barbara Vandervort 25 Oct 1998
I am searching for information on the family of George Rupp. He married on 28 Oct 1884. His wife's name was Elizabeth. I have reason to believe her maiden name was Drexel. She was born in Quebec, but I think she may have belonged to the family of Charles Drexel who appears on the 1860 Jefferson Co. census.
George and Lizzie's first child, Fredrick Rupp was born on 27 Sept. 1885 in Watertown. There was a daughter, Pauline who may have been born there also.
George and Lizzie moved to Rochester, Monroe Co, NY by 1892.
Does anyone have any information about where George came from, or confirmation that Lizzie was a Drexel? I have some information about the family after moving to Rochester.
I would be willing to do research in Monroe, Wayne or Ontario Counties in exchange for someone who would do Jefferson County research for me. Thank You!

Hay's Regt. He also served in Capt. DeGraff's Co., Col. Yates' regiment for one year. He was discharged 1 Jan 1781.
Martin SHELEY went from Philadelphia, PA to New York and then to Albany and to Danube, Herkimer Co., NY, finally going to the Town of Alexandria. His wife's name is unknown, but a list of his children is given in his pension application:

SHERMAN

Chris 25 Jul 1998
I am looking for a Job SHERMAN who married Susan Unknown. He is found on Wolfe Island Ontario in 1851, owning land, and in 1861 with his family. I know Job is a common name among SHERMANs but have yet to connect to the Job from Wolfe. "This" Job was born about 1788 in the USA and maybe father of my GGGM Philene SHERMAN. There is also a Parthenia/Parthena SHERMAN (another common Sherman name) on Wolfe at the same time as Job. Its possible she is Job's sister - born about 1795 and buried Wolfe 1870. Maybe your Sherman line might have a connection since many Wolfe Islanders came from or went to Jefferson County.
Thanks for any info you can provide.

SNOW

Marie C. Schroeder 16 Oct 1998
This is a "long shot", but I have to try...
Please, do you have any information, other than what is printed in the pioneer biography on the web site, on John Snow, or his parents, siblings, aunts, uncles? There are a gazillion John Snows in NY/New England, but there is circumstantial evidence that he may be related to one I am trying to trace. My John Snow ancestor had a Mary Cook (born in Canada) for second wife, and is supposed to be the father of Harvey (my ancestor, ?born in NY, known to be living in Vermont in 1850) and Orson Snow. Orson Snow (?born in NY) married Polly Grout, daughter of Elijah Grout, another person on the Jefferson Co. pioneer list. Eli Grout, father also Elijah, married a Mary E. Snow, born Dec. 1833 in Jefferson Co., and who was the daughter of another Snow, James and Mary Davy Snow. James and Mary both died in Jefferson Co., date unknown, probably mid to late 1800's. Some Snow and Grout families came out to Wisconsin together in the late 1840's, and on to Minn. in the 1870's.
My John Snow is not the John Snow of the pioneer biography; mine was born in Mass. in 1764, but I can't find him after that, and the only clue I have is 2nd wife (Cook) born in Canada, and the association with Grouts.
I would like any additional information you may have, in resources readily available to you, on Snow and Grout families in Jefferson Co. I would be happy to pay any copying or other costs, if needed.
Thank you, Marie

SPENCER, GRADALL

Susan Bradshaw 11 Jul 1998 07:20:28
I have traced some of the family to Jefferson County, specifically Henderson. I have references to Copenhagen and Denmark as well. My grandmother was Ella Mae Spencer. I'm not sure which branch of the New York Spencers she was from but I have old papers from my father that indicate she was the daughter of George Spencer and Mary Markey. Ella married Benjamin V. Grandall and I have found absolutely nothing on him thus far. I don't know if he was from the same area or not.
Any help you can give me will be appreciated.

WHIPPLE, FLANSBURG, ALLEN, FOLKETT

Bernard Ozinga 30 Aug 1998
Seeking information about gr. grandparents Alice Isabell Flansburg. b 7/4/1855 possibly near Jefferson CO NY, m 1776 to Charles A. Whipple, also born possibly near Jefferson Co. NY 4/9/1854. Need birthplace, and their parents' birthplace and marriage information. Alice's parents are William Flansburg and Mary Folkett Flansburg, born in NY, and Charles's parents are Russell Whipple and Mary Allen Whipple born in NY. He had a sister Lillian York of Medford Oregon who survived his death in 1937. This information came from birth certificate of Charles and Alice's son Arthur, born 1886 in Galesburg Illinois, and from Alice and Charles death registry and death certificates and their obits.
Obits for both Alice and Charles say they both moved to Illinois in 1856, however no census information can be found for Whipple in Knox Co or surrounding counties in Illinois. The Flansburgs show on 1860 census in Knox Co. but never again. Alice and Charles and their children Walter, Daisy, Leonard, Arthur, Otho, and John Whipple moved to MInnesota in 1897 and Alice died there in 1918, and Charles in 1937.
In the 1860 Illinois census, Flansburg family is listed as William age 46, Mary age 40, Ester age 18, John age 16, Francis age 14, Arthur age 12, Lydia age 9, Mary J age 7 and Alice Isabella age 4, all born in NY.
Family record lists Charles Whipple family as Russell G. Whipple, Mary Allen Whipple, both born NY, Sementha Whipple b 1848 NY, Sophia A. Whipple B 1852 NY, Charles A. Whipple born 1854 NY, Edwin R. Whipple Born 1856 ILLinois, Andrew Tuttle Whipple B 1858 Ill, Mary N. Whipple B 1861 NY, Lillian A. Whipple born 1863, Ill, and Daisy P. Whipple b 1868, Ill. Appreciate any scrap of information can be found since all these folks can not be found on any census following 1860, or death or marriage registry in ILLinois, MInnesota, or Iowa. Can not pursue further family genealogy research without information re their parents birth places, and those parents names/information.
Thanks!!! Lynda Ozinga

WHITTIER

Gordon Grant 01 Mar 1999
I am interested in locating information about David Whittier, Sr., of Henderson. He moved to the area from New England (MA) after the Revolutionary War, and died in 1815, buried, I believe, in Carpenter Cemetary. I have no information about his forebears, and would like to locate that, as well as his children's fortunes.
He had several children, one of which, Jonathan, was a great (several times) grandfather of mine.
Nathan Easton married a Whittier, and settled near Depauville. I would also like to find out more about his family. (My grandmother was one of his children; my mother was born in the house there in Depauville.)
Thank you for your consideration,
Gordon Grant

WILLIAMS

Terri Ruleau 6 Jul 1998
I am searching for information on Jeremiah WILLIAMS who was living in Lyme, Jefferson Co., in the 1820 census. He married Anna HAGEN about 1815. They moved to Ohio by 1830. Any information on Jeremiah or Anna or the area of Lyme in 1820 would be greatly appreciated. Does anyone know if this was a fishing community at the time? Jeremiah's occupation was shown as fisherman in later census records. Terri Ruleau

WOOD

DR ELBERT W PHILLIPS 5 Feb 1999
I am seeking the parents and other ancestors of Catherine WOOD who wed Allen CHAMBERLAIN (born 8 Feb 1816 Ellisburgh, son of John D. CHAMBERLAIN Sr. and Dolly ALLEN) of Ellisburgh Twn., Jefferson Co., NY; they evidently had a single child Charles CHAMBERLAIN born 6 April 1856 in Ellisburgh.
Catherine might be considerably younger than Allen, since he was age 40 when their son was born. Allen died 15 October 1858 in Ellisburgh when their son Charles was only 2½ years of age. Did Catherine re- marry, and if so whom? When and where did she die?
Could Catherine be related to the Wood family of Woodville, Jefferson Co? What exact date did the marriage take place?
Any help in the solution of these questions would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Elbert

WRIGHT

Jean W. Thwaits 07 Mar 1999
I have recently discovered that I share ancestors with the JESSE WRIGHT family of Rodman, New York (c. 1827) and would be interested in family extensions. Here is my "connecting" information. JESSE WRIGHT (Deacon John/Deacon Josiah */John*/John*/ (* = common ancestor)
JESSE WRIGHT was born August 11, 1753, in Woburn, Middlesex County, MA; and died 1827 in Rodman, Jefferson County, New York. He married LYDIA PARKER August 4, 1772 in Woburn, Middlesex County, Massachusetts (p. 123), daughter of JOSIAH PARKER. NEHGR - Volume 37 - January 1883 THE WRIGHTS OF WOBURN
He was in the military service under Capt. Wyman, 1778 (Sewall's WOBURN, 577) and removed to Packersfield, New Hampshire, where, on August 27, 1785, and August 12, 1792, Samuel Thompson, Esq. of Woburn, visited him. January 4, 1799, during very cold weather, Mr. Jesse Wright and wife lodged with the diarist Thompson at Woburn.

(My note: Samuel Thompson's mother was Ruth Wright)
DAR LINEAGE BOOKS
JESSE WRIGHT (1753-1827) served in Capt. Jesse Wyman's Company of Woburn Militia at Bunker Hill. He was born in Woburn, Massachusetts; died in Rodman, New York.
Children of JESSE WRIGHT and LYDIA PARKER:
JOSIAH WRIGHT b. (1773-1790) (of Templeton, New Hampshire)
LUTHER WRIGHT b. (1773-1790) (of Rodman, New York)
NATHAN WRIGHT b. (1773-1790) (of Templeton, New Hampshire)
PAMELIA WRIGHT b. (1773-1790)
LYDIA WRIGHT b. January 6, 1774
JESSE WRIGHT b. May 30, 1779
The only family extension I have is through DAR on-line lineage books:
NATHAN WRIGHT of Packersfield (now Nelson), New Hampshire, married SOPHIA BEAL.
Child: GEORGE BEAL WRIGHT who married AMELIA FRANCES GRAVES.
Their child: MARY WRIGHT born Henderson, Jefferson County, New York (DAR ID Number 43646) married FRED DEVILLO SQUIRES.
I would be interested in sharing WRIGHT family information, and, hopefully, acquiring information in return.
