PIONEER MATTY(METTEY) FAMILY

1. JACQUES CHRISTOPHE METTEY, (son of FREDERIC and CATHERINE (DEFRANCE)
METTEY) was born 15 Feb 1803 in Frederic-Fontaine, Haute Saone, France.
He usually signed French records J. C. Mettey, in a bold hand. After
immigration, and prior to the 1835 NY state census, METTEY became
anglicized to MATTY. Christopher Matty is the name in the family oral
history, and in at least one property transfer (1866). He was called
James C. Matty in the only federal census record mentioning him. James is
the English equivalent of Jacques. According to Cook, his first
residence was a small house on the north bank of Black River, a short
distance upriver from Great Bend. He soon removed to the Town of Rutland.
He died 17 Jul 1875 at the age of 72, and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery,
Adams.

He married 4 Jul 1824 in Frederic-Fontaine, Haute Saone, France

SUSANNE CATHERINE CHAMOT The family was authorized, and scheduled, to
embark at L'Havre 19 Jun 1832. Cook said the departure was long delayed,
