Named for the wife of Jacob Brown, hero of the War of 1812 and pioneer of the Town of Brownville, the Town of Pamelia was created 12 April 1819 from Brownville, though later a portion of the Town of Orleans was added to it. The name was briefly changed to Leander, but was soon returned to Pamelia. Perch Lake, one of the larger bodies of water within the county, lies on the northern border of Pamelia, and its extensive wetlands today constitute a state game management area.
Nearly the entire southern boundary of the town is occupied by the city of Watertown, some of the land for which was taken from Pamelia. The Town of Orleans shares Perch Lake on the north, the mother town of Brownville is on the west, and Le Ray is the eastern border of the town. Pamelia Four Corners is the only hamlet in the town, with its lovely limestone houses which are a trademark of the Town of Pamelia.
