AARON DRESSER
From
Jane Dresser
Here's what several of us think about the Dressers in Jefferson County:
Aaron Dresser (I), was born in Princeton, MA, on 20 March, 1765 - a
well documented birth date. Family sources say he died in Livingston
County, NY, in 1820, 'while visiting his son, Lemuel'. I doubt his
body was transported back to Jefferson County in those days, but I do
not know of any cemetery records in Livingston Co. for him, either.
This Aaron Dresser is the Revolutionary War veteran. We know he
lived past 1816, as he sold land in 1817 and was involved in his
son's probate administration in 1818.
His eldest son, Aaron Dresser (II), was born 15 October, 1790, in
Montague, MA, supposedly a date from an 'old family Bible' - and we
suspect that he died 2 October, 1846, which would make him 55 years
old. We suspect the date on the gravestone has worn to the point that
it seems to read 1816, rather than 1846. However, as I previously
said, I have not looked at the stone itself. He would obviously not
be a Rev. War veteran.
Aaron II's son, Aaron Dresser (III), was born in 1816, was one of the
young men who participated in the Battle of the Windmill and was
transported to Tasmania for five years. He returned, married and had
a family, then died in 1855. He and his father, Aaron II, are both
said to be buried in the Old Theresa Cemetery.
So while I would love to have our family represented on the
Revolutionary War Veterans page, acknowledging those buried in
Jefferson County, somehow I don't think we qualify. If there are
cemetery records (other than the gravestone) that I am not aware of,
I stand corrected. But our feeling is that the gravestone in Old
Theresa Cemetery is for Aaron II, not his veteran father, and that
Aaron I is buried somewhere in Livingston County, where he supposedly
died in 1820.

ABNER HUBBARD
From
Laurel
I have additional information which I hope you can blend into the bio on Abner Hubbard.
(from Granville, MA Vital records). ABNER HUBBRD was the son of
SAMUEL HUBBARD b. in Middletown, CT in 1723( son of NATHANIEL of Middletown b.
14 Sept. 1690 and SARAH JOHNSON) and MARY STOW (daughter of JEREMIAH STOW b. 1704
and SARAH BIGGS). They were married Sept. 13, 1749. ABNER was listed in the
notes as the 4th child born on Aug. 25, 1759
CATHERINE was the daughter of DANIELl WEBSTER b. 1730 and HANNAH VOSBURGH b. 1736.
(From the Egremont, Berkshire Co MA) Cong. Church baptism record for April
7, 1771) Children of DANIEL & HANNAH WEBSTERr:
DANIEL
DAVID
STEPHEN
EZEKIEL
HANNAH
RUTH
CATHERINE
LUCINDA
DAVID WEBSTER stayed for awhile with his sister and brother-in-law, ABNER HUBBARD after DAVID'S wife
passed away. DAVID was not living with them later when he died.
This comes from notes from the Hubbard Notebook-Genealogical Department of Flower Memorial
Library:
In the settlement of the estate of ABNER HUBBARD in Box H-18, the names of
his children are given as follows--
SALLY COFFIEN, wife of HENRY H. COFFIEN
CATHERINE McNITT, wife of JOHN McNITT of Orleans Co., NY
MARY ANN DODGE, wife of WILLIAM DODGE moved 1844 to WI
ADELINE BOWERS wife of ZACHARIAH BOWERS moved 1844 to WI
STEPHEN HUBBARD of Whitehall, NY
HUGH HUBBARD went to WI
ELSENA, wife of FREDERICK COFFIEN of Lyme, NY
I have a statement made by a Mrs. Mary Hubbard aged 82, on 14 Sept. 1838
saying that she had known CATHERINE WEBSTER HUBBARD when she was a girl,
before she married ABNER. She says they were m. at New Concord, NY (Columbia Co.
and I have that they were married 8 Jan. 1784)
==========
The families of MARY ANN HUBBARD and WILLIAM KING DODGE and of ADELINE and
LUMAN BOWERS are on the 1825, 30 and 35 Lyme, Jefferson County census. In 1844 they
moved to WI. Probably HUGH HUBBARD went at the same time. By 1850 they had settled in
Roxbury, Dane Co.
In 1850 ZACHARIAH BOWERS (born c.1804 NY/MA and now about 46) went to the gold
rush where he was robbed and murdered. ADELINE lived with daughter CORNELIA
REYNOLDS and died 1885 at Roxbury, Dane Co. WI.
Their children were:
RUSSELL married REBECCA CHASE;
CORNELIA married Wm. B. REYNOLDS

AMOS REED
CORRECTION:
PHOEBE (CAMPBELL) (REED) (SAVAGE) was the mother of AMOS REED. Her second husband was JOHN SAVAGE, AMOS'S stepfather (Newton MA vital records). Phoebe was born 28 Oct 1735 and died 16 May 1828 in NY. Amos did remarry after the death of his first wife, HANNAH SLADE. On 14 Sep 1824 he married her sister, the widow THANKFUL (SLADE) CASE, born 22 Mar 1771, died 21 Oct 1840.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Service, NOTE:
A full description of the military service of AMOS REED can be found in his Revolutionary War pension file, not referenced above.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Remarks, CORRECTION:
The first child is ARCHIBALD a.k.a. ARCHA. Apparently at least three of the children are buried at Three Mile Creek Cemetery--JOHN SAVAGE REED, BETSY (REED) ROGERS, and ROLON (2nd) R. REED. However, some of the present-day stones for REED family members were clearly put in place many years after the deaths of the persons to whom they refer, so the information is questionable.

I noticed that Stratford is being used instead of Strafford. It should be Strafford Tolland Co. Connecticut. And his wife Sally - it should be Sally McNitt. Plus the birth date on Stephen is 22 March 1759. Sally McNitt's birthdate 25 Oct 1766 in Jefferson Co NY - dau of David McNitt & Martha Patrict.
