Survey taken in May-June 1965 by the Mr and Mrs Wayland Arthur.
Location: On Mike Matuszczak farm (1965) near Route 12 about three fourths mile from Lowville.

Note from Steve Zabele: The GPS geo-coordinates of this cemetery are 43.45.907 N by 75.27.687 W. It is on a small road directly off of SR-12, about 0.75 miles south of the intersection of SR-12 and SR-26. The sign post for the small road says Ramos Road even though some electronic map sources show this as Loucks Road. The cemetery is easily visible from SR-12 on the left-hand side as you approach Lowville from the south.

(Note: Hannah Bradford Arthur, the widow of Richard Arthur, Revolutionary soldier, came to
Martinsburg in 1802, with eleven children. She purchased many acres of land along the
present route 12D. She was great-great granddaughter of Gove William Bradford of Plymouth
Colony, and also a descendant of Elder William Brewster and Richard Warren, of Plymouth.
Later she married Samuel Bates. There are two other graves, inside the iron fence, marked
only by fieldstones, and outside of the fence, to the southeast, are three graves marked by
fieldstones; these may have been children of Samuel Bates, or possibly grand-children. There
is no record of these. The iron fence was erected by her son Joseph Arthur. Her grave is
marked by a headstone and the name Hannah Bates.)
Note from Steve Zabele:Hannah's headstone reads "In memory of Hannah wife of Samuel Bates. Died Dec 13(?) 18?1 aged 82 years". Historical records list Hannah Bradford Arthur as the daughter of Israel Bradford and Sarah Bartlett. Several information source list Hannah's birth date as February 28, 1751. If this is correct, the year of death must then be 1831, and the age must have been recorded incorrectly.
