JONES

Bernie Dixon Mon Apr 2 09:19:34 2001
Could someone look up in the 1900 census for Madison county in Brookfield for the family of Thomas JONES. His wife would have been Hannah JONES and then children listed as Fanny, Walter, Lydia, Lizzie and then Mary. My wife is trying to locate where her relatives lived in 1900. I think they lived in Brookfield at that time but if someone could look up that census information for that date it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Bernie

BARNETT

Scott D. Hann Mon Apr 2 16:23:45 2001
I'm seeking any and all information about Capt. James R. BARNETT, 35th NY, killed at the battle of Antietam, MD, September 17, 1862. I've already consulted the regimental history, and have learned that he is buried in Peterboro, apparently his hometown. Can anyone tell me what newspapers were published in Peterboro during the Civil War, or what papers would have carried Peterboro news? Most valuable to me would be an obituary and/or biography of BARNETT, a photograph of him, and his exact final resting place. Hopefully somewhere there is an eyewitness account of his death, which would be invaluable to me. Regardless, any and all information, however small, is of use to me. I'd like to thank anyone who answers this post, and welcome any suggests you care to make. Scott D. Hann 205 Vail Court, Mays Landing, NJ 08330-2221

WARREN - MOORE

Michael Meggison Wed Apr 4 18:23:52 2001
Hi! Lucky day...a previously unknown relation was discovered today living in 1860 and 1870 at Cazenovia, New York. I am willing to exchange any information that can be found about this family. Any researchers in Cazenovia and Madison County will be welcome (wills, vitals, deeds, cemeteries), and they will be recompensed.

6. Alfred3 WARREN (Anne Maria2 Meggison, George Eden1) was born 17 January 1834 at Cascumpec, Lot 5, Prince County, Prince Edward Island. He died after 1880, possibly in New York State. He married about 1863, likely at Cazenovia, Madison County, New York, Marion MOORE, born about 1842 in New York State, and likely a daughter of James MOORE, Jr. of Cazenovia.

Alfred WARREN moved to New York State in the late 1850s, and first shows up in the state at Cazenovia in the Census of 1860, residing in the household of Theodore and Sophia MORSE, farmer. Alfred was aged 26, a farm laborer, born at Prince Edward Island.

In the Census of 1870, Alfred WARREN, aged 36, works on farm, was living at Cazenovia with wife Marion, aged 28, keeping house; and their three children: Alla, 5; Willis, 3; and Vinnie, 1. Alfred’s birthplace was Prince Edward Island, and Marion and the children were all born in New York State. The value of Alfred’s real estate was $700, and his personal estate was worth $200.
Children, born likely at Cazenovia, Madison County, New York:
i. Alla4 WARREN, born about 1865.
ii. Willis WARREN, born about 1867.
iii. Vinnie WARREN (female), born about 1869.

WILLIAMS - LOOMIS

Deanna Vosburgh Smith Tue May 15 16:29:23 2001
Daniel WILLIAMS c 1793 Montgomery Co., NY; dp 1860; was possibly in Madison Co.soon after his marriage to Jane DUNLAP in Montgomery Co. in 1814. In 1820 he had a son, Peter,b in Smithfield, Peterboro, Madison Co. The family returned to Montgomery Co. where Peter married Martha Van Horne. Peter was incarcerated in Auburn State Prison. I don't know what year he was in custody but he is there in Sept. of 1855. His family is residing in Town of Florida, Montg. Co. that month.
We have not been able to learn the reason for his incarceration. We are suspect that he and his father Daniel may have been associated with the infamous LOOMIS Gang. I've read all of the books regarding the family. Are court records available for research?.

I'm researching the Peter WARING family that move to Iowa in 1864 but lived in Madison Co, New York in 1849. I found them on the 1860 census. I think Peter was born about 1801 in Connecticut. I know he had a brother Ramsom and sister Ann.
I've tried to get a Marriage license to no avail. Delia Elizabeth is the daughter of Freeborn BURTON. Can anybody help me with any information. The 1900 census in Harrison Co Iowa where they moved have him as being born in 1813 in Iowa and his Fater being born in Vermont and Mother born in Maine. Also showed him as not being able to read or write. Delia could read & write. It also showed that Delia was born in New York and her father also. Her mother was born in Vermont. It also showed that there was 15 years age difference.
I would appreciate any help. They had 5 children.
On the 1860 census I found them with Post office Bridgefort, Free inhabitants in the town of Sullivan, Madison Co. N.Y. There is says he was a Cooper and born in New York. It showed his bother Ramsom living with them.

MERWIN

Ashley Kennedy Sat Jun 16 01:10:27 2001
My e-mail is not set up to default properly, so I must post this instead. Please somebody forward this accordingly to the querant on this page. I am the great-great granddaughter of Daniel Ostrander MERWIN of the CSA. What do you want to know? We have pics of him at my family's home in New Orleans, and have kept and treasured all of the things passed down through the family, including furniture and lace. I do not believe that he died from complications from losing his arm, but rather went home to Louisiana, where he had a cane plantation and a brood of children. LSU sits on that land today, and his two left gauntlets are kept in the Confederate museum in New Orleans. Please contact me. I can't believe I actually have Yankee relations. LOL. And on behalf of my family, well... on behalf of the PART of my family that I know, hey! This is pretty cool... looking forward to hearing from you.
Ashley KENNEDY... daughter of Eileen MERWIN... daughter of Walter J. MERWIN... son of Samuel Bangs MERWIN... son of Daniel Ostrander MERWIN... is that enough info for now? Take care.

On the other hand, perhaps he DID die as stated, but again... I don't think so. Either way, Obviously, I'm part of your missing link, so please do contact me. My family will be so.... well, some of them will be so thrilled! The rest are still bitter that we lost the damn war to y'all. Regardless, get in touch, please, and use DOM's name as the header, as I get tons of e-mail, and don't want to miss yours. Thank you so much... one of the last of the lineage... Ashley

NICKERSON - WILBER - MAY

Carolyn Langdon Thu Jun 21 19:45:03 2001
I am looking for information with regard to the family of my ggrandfather, Linus May NICKERSON. He was born in Dryden, New York in 1823. His parents were Stephen NICKERSON and Roxanna MAY. Linus also had a younger sister, Hannah NICKERSON. After Stephen's death in the late 1820's, Roxanna married a Hiram C. WILBER. I have been able to locate quite a bit of information online about the NICKERSON and MAY families, and by searching online, I have located Roxanna's burial place as Needham Cemetary in Fenner, Madison County (her parents, Rufus and Eunice MAY) are also buried there, but I am finding no information about Hiram C. WILBER. Following Roxanna's death in 1844, her daughter, Hannah, also married a Hiram WILBER (in 1844). They lived in Chittenango Falls (and had several children) until the early 1850s when they moved to Minnesota. Again, I have been unable to locate much information regarding this Hiram WILBER and have no idea if there is a family connection to Hiram C. WILBER who was married to Roxanna. Through a connection online, I was able to get a few pages of the Will of W. Jay WILBER filed in Madison County, New York, tho I do not have a date for this will, and it refers to a number of children of Hiram and Hannah living in Minnesota and states that Hiram is deceased. This will also states that Hiram had brothers by named Vincent, John, and Hazzard. I would certainly appreciate hearing from anyone who could shed some light on this family.

I know that she also attend college, but again have no information as to the institution. They were married in Cazenovia in July of 1851.
