My name is Nathan Pyles. I am writting from the SF bay area, CA. I am looking for information on my great great grandfather, Charles Bates Briggs. He is rather an elusive fellow and I am trying to find out more about him, as none of my family knows anything about him really.
He was born in Novemeber of 1846, in Madison County, New York. I do not know anything about his father, but I know from what my grandmother has written that Charles Bates Briggs’s mother was from Ireland. I know that he then presumably moved west with his family to Bristol,Kendal County, IL.
In January of 1865, he went to Joliet, IL. It is from there that he mustered into the 147th infantry Company C, Regiment of the Illinois, Volunteers.
If you have any information on this CHARLES BATES BRIGGS, I would greatly apprciate it.
Cheers,
Nathan
