OBITUARY: WIFE OF JOHN STEINER DIES; Well known resident of Beaver Falls, Mrs. Elizabeth Steiner, 69, Member of Swiss Colony Which Came to Beaver Falls Section From Switzerland in 1884 - Funeral to Be Held Monday Afternoon. Beaver Falls, Dec. 2. -- Mrs. Elizabeth Kapelli Steiner and prominent resident of Beaver Falls, died Friday morning in the House of Good Samaritan, Watertown. She had been ill five weeks and never recovered from an operatiojn. She was born in Switzerland on Dec. 23, 1869, a daughter of Christopher and Elizabeth Bliss Kappeli. Her mother died in Switzerland when she was ten years old and her father later married Mrs. Elizabeth Ackerman (Eggimann) Steiner, widow of John Steiner, Sr. The second Mrs. Kappeli had two sons, John and Robert Steiner. In 1884 Chritopher Kappeli and his wife and their family joined with the Hofer and Herzig families to make a party of 27 persons and came to this country from SwitzerlandThey often recounted that the trip cost $20 per person in contrast to the expensive fare of the present day. The entire group settled on the Third Road, establishing a community of farm homes about four miles from Beaver Falls. The Kappeli family which made the trip from Switzerland consisted of Mr. and Mrs. Keppeli and children, Mrs. Steiner and her brother, Fred Kapelli, and sister, Mrs. J. J. Nuspliger, and John and Robert Steiner. On Nov. 8, 1886, the marriage of Miss Elizabeth Keppeli and John Steiner took place. They lived in Catorland for about a year or two after they were first married and then returned to the farm where they raised their family. Mr. Steiner at first spent his entire time working the farm but later he divided his labor between a lumber mill and the farm. The farm established by Christopher kappeli was twice visited by fire. About 38 years ago the house burned and in that fire Christopher Kappeli suffered injuries which cost his sight about a year later. Sixteen years ago, three weeks after Christopher Kappeli's death, the place again was swept by fire, this time all of the buildings burning. Mr. and Mrs. Steiner moved to Beaver Falls after that tragedy and about a month later purchased the home on the outskirts of the village where they had resided since. Mr. Steiner since has been employed by the J. P. Lewis Paper Company in Beaver Falls. Mrs. Steiner has always been active in community and church work. She was a member of the Salem Evangelical church of Beaver Falls and the Ladies' Aid Society.
