Alverton
S. (Bert) Adel, 94, of 313 N. Main St., died this morning at the Gerrit-Smith
Infirmary, Eaton, where he had been a patient for one day. Born in Peterboro, on
Dec. 21, 1873, he was the son of Henry and Olive Guy Adel. A lifelong resident
of Madison County, he was a blacksmith by profession. His wife, the former Grace
Butler, died in 1921. Mr Adel was of the Methodist faith. Surviving are four
daughters, Mrs. Gladys Zabele and Mrs. Ruth Shelley, both of Oneida, Mrs. Mabel
Milgate of Sherrill and Mrs. Connie (sic - Carrie) Harp of Eaton, 12 children,
and several great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Wetmore, 63, Dies in Hospital - Mrs. Nellie Wetmore, 63, native of
Cazenovia, and resident of 254 James St., this city, died last night in Broad
Street Hospital after a short illness. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Carrie
Harp, Mrs. Gladys Zabele, Mrs. Ruth Shelley and Mrs. Mabel Lerch, Oneida; five
brothers, Joseph Butler, George Butler and William Butler, Oneida; Albert
Butler, Wampsville, and Frank Butler of Central Square, also several neices,
nephews and grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted privately from the
late home at 2 Thursday afternoon. Rev. F. W. Schwepk pastor of St. Paul's
Evangelical Church, will officiate Burial will be made in Glenwood Cemetery in
charge Whittin and Rice. Friends may call at the home Wednesday.

ONEIDA -
Leland S. "Red" Schafer, 75, West Road, died Tuesday evening, Jan. 30, 1996, in
the Oneida Healthcare Center, where he had been a medical patient for the past
four days. He was born on May 24, 1920, in Mexica, N.Y., the son of Frank E. and
Margaret Church Schafer. He was a resident of the Oneida area for the past 60
years.
He first married Nellie Zabele on Oct. 30, 1938, in Oneida. She died
on May 25, 1964. He later married Dorothy Yeoman Swetmon on Oct. 18, 1965, in
Halstead, Pa.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Schafer was employed with the
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as a coordinator of inspections
and appraisals, with his office based in Morrisville. Also, for many years, he
owned and operated Schafer's Auction House in Durhamville. Mr. Schafer was a
veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army in France, Belgium,
Holland, and Germany. He was a life member of the Dean-Cunningham Post 1312,
Veterans of Foreign (cont'd).

of the Moose and was of the Protestant faith.
