1892 Feb 6 born Franz Schafer, son of Karl & Eliszebeta Barge (Barche)
Schafer. s5

born Frank Schafer at Clarence Center, Erie Co. NY. s6

1897 Mar 17 wife Margaret Maud Church born Cateract, Madison Co. Wisconsin
(at abt age 14, her parents and siblings moved from their farm
in Wisconsin to one purchased in Oswego Co., NY, near Williamstown)

1913 abt Frank went to work as a logger in the Camden Woods, near
Williamstown, Oswego Co. NY, for a Mr. Freuhoff. Not to be
confused with "Williamsville - Erie County", his place of
residence.

Mr. Freuhoff had a farm north of Williamsville, Erie Co., NY s750
(It appears that Mr. Freuhoff may have been in the lumber
business in Williamsville or Clarence Center, Erie Co. and hired
and others to cut timber for him in the Camden Woods, near
Williamstown "Oneida Co.", his first name may have been Joseph) s65

"Grandpa worked for a Mr. Freuhoff and met Gram who lived at Orton
Hollow, four miles from Williamstown...One time Grandpa and a
friend were following Gram and Jennie, both were interested in
Gram. Grandpa told Gram his name was Dego Bill. He stayed late
at her house one night and asked Gram to go to Buffalo with him
and took her to Mabel and Ed Riegles." s338 (Mr. Freuhoff lived
in Williamsville per Red, business was lumber?)

"After Frank met Margaret (but before they were married), Frank
was afraid for Margaret so shipped her off to Clarence Center to
live with his parents until he finished working (in Camden Woods?)
and could marry her." s914 (Most likely because she was "working
out" (in Maple View) and would walk alone into Williamstown to
meet her sister (Jennie?) who was "working out" in ???. They would
then both walk to Orton Hallow to visit their parents. Judging
from what is known about her father H.J., my guess is that he too
did not like Margaret and Jennie being unattended and encouraged
this arrangement.

1914 Jun 16 They married at Clarence Center s314 (married 1913 per s63)
"Grandpa and Grandma were married June 16, 1914 at the Lutheran
parsonage in Clarence Center by George E. Shettler (pastor).
Witness: Howard Schafer, brother Henry's son, & Amanda
Schafer." (his sister) s338

"Grandpa Schafer used to belong to a barbershop quartet and sang
at parties. He was a tenor and a yodeler. Swarmville, near
Williamsville. He sang high tenor as a teenager and then sang
low tenor as he got older." s338

"Gram used to sing gospel songs with Grandpa." s338

1915 Sep 10 son Clyde Edward born Getzville, Erie Co. NY

They remained in the Williamsville/Clarence Center area
until about 1916/20.

1918 abt moved to Oswego Co., NY, Mexico?

1920 May 24 son Leland Sherman (Red) born Mexico, Oswego Co. NY

"Ed Riegel called this area down East." (Ed = Franklin?) s338
(referring to Oneida/Madison Counties)

1920 Margaret Age 24 as of 7 Jan 1920. Census indicates that Frank's
mother's tongue was German and both his parents were born in
Germany. Per 1920 NY Census. (this from Scott Melendez? need to
locate source)

1924 abt moved to Williamsville (Erie Co.), Corner of Sheraton
and ?? "the Wilson house". s336

1924/25 Resided on Cayuga Street in the Dygler house between
Williamsville and the airport when son Red attended 1st grade.
They then moved to Mill Street where Peggy was born. s750

1926 Oct 26 dau Loraine (Peggy) born Mill St, Williamville, Erie Co. NY (one
block parallel to where Fred and Charlotte Naedele lived) s336

"Grandpa (Frank) got shot in the back of the head late at night
when moving his shovel on a trailer. Lanterns were hanging on the
trailer and a bootlegger ran into it. Grandpa went to talk to him
and was shot in the cap. The bullet went through the cap but not
into the head. He took his hat into Erie. Co. courthouse as
evidence. They lived on Mill st. in Williamsville in 1926 when
Peg was born." s338

1927 "In 1927, Gramp and Gram lived on Mill St. in Williamsville, N.Y.
Peg was a small baby. Dad and Red went to school in Cheektawaga
on Genessee St., then Clarence, The teacher was Mrs. Blue.

1927/28 Frank obtained work in the Catskills
lived 1 year Stamford (in the Catskills). Clyde abt age 13/14 s336
"Dad (Clyde) worked in a riding stable as Stamford" s338
He (Clyde) also caddied at the local golf course - Stamford. s750

Red stated that they never lived in any one place for over a year
except 2 years at ????.

lived Williamsville, South Forest Street. s336

1929 abt purchased brand new home in Clarence (not Clarence Center),
Erie Co. NY. About 20 acres, kind of a gentleman's farm.
Frank worked and boarded in Fonda while family resided in
Clarence. Frank and Margaret lost the home following the stock
market crash (1929-30). s336

while residing in Peterboro, they camped out in the nearby
woods. c1995

1933/34 moved to Bucks Woods. s336
Frank ran the Bucks Woods farm on shares (50/50) s750

one of their (several) children with whom he formed a
friendship (a son, name ______). c1995
