Dorothy B. Eaton
Dorothy B. Eaton, 79, of 8272 Route 13, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at her
home, following a lengthy illness.
She was born Feb. 18, 1920, in Belleville, Kan., the daughter of Charles E.
and Mary Daggett Ball.
Mrs. Eaton had spent her early years in Belleville. Her family moved to
Canastota when she was 15 and she attended Canastota High School.
She had been a Sheriff's Deputy and had retired from the Madison County
Sheriff's Department in Wampsville, where she had been a cook for 15 years.
She had also been a housekeeper for the Stafford family and other families in
Canastota for many years. Mrs. Eaton had also worked for Clarks Petroleum
Service in Canastota for several years.
She had been a local Girl Scott leader, and was a member of the Madison
County Deputy Sheriff's Association. She had also been a member and a Deacon
of the First Baptist Church of Canastota.
She married Robert D. Eaton on Aug. 12, 1939, in Canastota. The couple
celebrated their 60th anniversary this year.
Surviving are her husband; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles and
Patricia Boylan of Iowa, La.; two daughters and sons-in-laws, Mary Jane and
David DeFrees of Oneida and Joyce and Charles Daniels of Warners; one brother
and sister-in-law, J. Homer and Dorothy P. Ball of Canastota; five
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs.
Eaton was predeceased by two sisters, Ethel Moser, who died in 1982, and
Edna Kilbourn, who died in 1996.
