 Dorothy W. Vedder, 84, formerly of Fifth Avenue, Sylvan Beach and Lake Road, Oneida, 
died Tuesday morning, April 6, 1999, in the Extended Care Facility of the Oneida Healthcare 
Center, where she had been a patient for the past five and one-half months. 
 She was born on Sept. 21, 1914, in Albion, the daughter of Carl and Jennie Miller Wiggins. 
She was a resident of this area for the past 51 years. Mrs. Vedder was a graduate of the 
Pulaski High School and the Cortland State Teachers College. 
 She married Harmon A. Vedder on April 20, 1945, in Ilion. Mr. Vedder died on July 17, 1970.  
 Prior to her retirement in 1975, Mrs. Vedder was employed with the Oneida City School 
District, as an elementary teacher at the Durhamville and former Wampsville elementary 
schools.  
 She was a life member of the American Legion Oneida Post No. 169, a member of the 
American Association of Retired Persons, Oneida Chapter No. 3328, The New York State 
Retired Teachers Association, a chapter member of the Women's National Memorial, and a 
former member of the Federated Church of Westdale. 
 Mrs. Vedder was a veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant with the U.S. 
Womens Corps. 
 Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Harmon A. Vedder Jr. of Oneida, Daniel J. 
and Nancy Vedder of Canastota and Nicholas C. and Pamela Vedder of Verona; one 
daughter, Helen Hilliker of Oneida; two brothers, Harrison E. Wiggins of Williamstown and 
Allen H. Wiggins of Oneida; Eight grandchildren, Susanne Tudi, Eric Vedder, Joanne  Hilliker, 
Nadia Vedder, Morgan Vedder, Jill Harrington, Daniel Harrington and Jennifer Harrington; two 
great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
