Elmer A. Kapfer

  Elmer A. Kapfer 
  Elmer A. Kapfer, 76, of 7112 New Yorker Ave., Pines Building, died Thursday,
Oct. 7, 1999, at his home following a lengthy illness, with his son at his bedside. 
  He was born on Oct. 20, 1922, in Chadwicks, the son of Carl and Jessie 
Smith Kapfer. 
  Mr. Kapfer had spent his early years in the Chadwicks area, and was a 1940 
graduate of Chadwicks High School. He lived in Oneida before moving to 
Canastota in 1955. 
  He had worked at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome for 37 years, retiring in 
1979. Mr. Kapfer started out as an aviation mechanic, retiring as production 
  Mr. Kapfer had been a member of American Legion Charles Miller Post No. 140
in Canastota. He had been an avid bowler in Canastota, Oneida and Sylvan 
Beach, and enjoyed swimming at the Oneida YMCA, where he had been a member. 
He had also been a Little League coach in Canastota. 
  He was a World War II veteran, serving overseas with the U.S. Army Air 
  Mr. Kapfer married Teresa M. Garofalo, on Sept. 15, 1951, in Canastota. 
Mrs. Kapfer died on Dec. 11, 1988. 
  Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Carl D. Kapfer and Kim and
Mary Kapfer, all of Canastota; two sisters, Sister Mary Ethna Kapfer of 
Herkimer and Marguerite Carroll of Chadwicks, one sister-in-law, Jane Kapfer 
of Chadwicks; two grandchildren, Michael S. Kapfer and Nicole E. Kapfer, and 
several nieces and nephews. Mr. Kapfer was predeceased by two brothers, 
Vincent C. Kapfer and Francies Kapfer.
