  ONEIDA - Elsie L. Bortle, 96, of 4769 Morgan Road, died Saturday morning, April 28, 2001, in the 
Oneida Healthcare Center, where she had been a patient for the past six days.

  She was born on July 15, 1904, in Cuyler, the daughter of Eugene and Eunice Fish Seamans. A resident 
of this area for the past 72 years, Mrs. Bortle was educated in Cortland and Mycenae schools. She 
married Everett H. Bortle, Sr. on Sept. 2, 1944 in Oneida Valley. Mr. Bortle died on Sept. 27, 1990. 

  Mrs. Bortle was employed, at one time with the Oneida Limited, Silversmiths. She was of the Methodist faith. 

  Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, George and Hazel Caswell of Verona, Harry and Judie 
Caswell of Lafayette and Everett Bortle, Jr. of Oneida; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Josephine 
Piersall off Blossvale, Marie and James Schon of Durhamville and Patricia and David Behr of Oneida; one 
step-daughter, Beverly Wright of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Eunice Fellows of Verona; 37 grand-
children, 55 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; four very special friends, Peg Brown, 
John and Ethel Deschamps and Helen Schramm; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a 
step-son, Edward Bortle and a grandson, Bernard Wameling, Jr.
