Ernest P. Butler Sr., 93, of 505 Stanton St., Oneida, died Wednesday at home. Born in Smithfield, he 
lived in the Oneida area all his life. He retired in 1969 after 43 years with Oneida Ltd., Sherrill. He 
was a member of Oneida Ltd. Retirement Club, Community Associated Clubs and Oneida Elks Lodge 767 and 
was a former member of Oneida Moose Lodge 421. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 
Oneida. A daughter, Irene Rowe, died in 1991; a son, Joseph, died in 1993. 
 
Survivors: His wife of 73 years, the former Mabel I. Carter; a daughter, Marilyn J. Dunbar of Oneida; 
two sons, Ernest R. of Lake Okeechobee, Fla., and Richard C. of Oneida; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-
grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren. Services: 10 a.m. Monday in St. Paul's United Methodist 
Church. Burial, Crown Hill Memorial Park, Clinton. Calling hours, 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Ironside Funeral 
Home, 342 Main St., Oneida. Contributions: St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 551 Sayles St., Oneida
