Florence 'Fifi' Stewart
Mrs. Florence "Fifi" Stewart, 83, of 1004 Main Street, Sylvan Beach, died
on Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, in St. Luke's Hospital, Utica.
She was born on Nov. 4, 1916, in Rome, the daughter of Peter and Amelia
Caramella Campanaro. On Sept. 21, 1936, she married Edward "Eddie" R. Stewart
Sr. in St. Mary's Church, Rome.
Fifi started working as a hairdresser. She latter joined with her husband
to open and operate Eddie's Restaurant in Sylvan Beach, a well-known Central
New York eating landmark for the past 65 years. Her cooking and pie making
were well known in the area. She was very active in the restaurant's
operation until her recent illness. They also owned Eddie's Liquor Store.
She was a member of St. Mary's of the Lake Church, Verona Beach, and a
member of the Christian Women's Society. She was also a member of the Sylvan
Beach Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxillary, the Oneida Elks Auxiliary
and was a member of the original community club of Sylvan Beach.
Fifi is survived by her husband of 63 years, Eddie; one daughter and son-
in-law, Barbara and Robert J. Corona of Sylvan Beach; one son and daughter-
in-law Edward R. and Leslie Stewart Jr. of Sylvan Beach; four grandchildren
and their spouses, Dr. Robert J. and Ann Corona Jr. of Skaneatles, Brian and
Rhea Corona of Los Angeles, Edward R. "Rick" and Jobie Stewart III of Sylvan
Beach and Alison A. Stewart of New York City; five great-grandchildren,
Kaitlin, Kara and Christopher Corona and Edwaed R. IV and Emily Stewart; one
sister, Nancy Semo of Rome; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was
predeceased by three sisters, Elizabeth Travis, Lillian Salerno and
Antoinette Basenfelder and four brothers, Nicholas, Louis, Frank and Vincent
