  Canastota - Gerald R. Wakefield, 79, of 107 Taylor Ave., died Saturday, 
Oct. 16, 1999, at the Oneida Healthcare Center following a lengthy illness. 
  He was born Nov. 18, 1919, in Canastota, the son of William and Mary  
Weimer Wakefield. 
  Mr. Wakefield had lived in Canastota allhis life and was a graduate of 
Canastota High School. 
  He had worked for Diemolding Corporation for 37 years, retiring in 1982. 
  Mr. Wakefield had been a member of the Canastota Conversation Club and the 
VIP (Visually Impaired Persons). He was an avid hunter and fisherman. 
  He was a member of St. Agatha's Church. 
  Mr. Wakefield married Belva Simmons on May 31, 1941 in Canastota. 
  Surviving are his wife; two daughters and one son-in-law, Shirley Wakefield
and Patricia and Robert Vanderhoof, all of Canastota; one grand-daughter, 
Lisa Vanderhoof; and several nieces and nephews.
