John M. Fisher 
  John M. Fisher, 86, formely of 116 Parker St., died Tuesday afternoon, 
Feb. 23, 1999, in the Charles Sitrin Health Center, New Hartford, where he 
had been a resident for more than two years. 
  He was born in Valparaiso, Ind., on Sept. 27, 1912, the son of Bert and 
Edna Meyers Fisher. A resident of this area since early childhood, he was 
educated in Valpariso and Vernon schools. 
  He married Gertrude Matteson in Oneida in October of 1945. She died in 
January of 1981. 
  Mr. Fisher, prior to his retirement, was employed with Oneida Ltd. He was a
veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S.Army in the European Theatre, 
where he received the purple Heart, and later served in the Korean Conflict. 
  He was a member of the Oneida Ltd. Retirement Club and the Community 
Associated Clubs. 
  He was of the Amish faith. 
  Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and David Howe of Oneida;
three grandchildren, Rodney Howe, Stephanie Howe and Heather Mair; and four
