Kathleen 'Rusty' Voelker
Kathleen "Rusty" Voelker, 87, formerly of 425 Sherrill Road, died Tuesday,
June 22, 1999, at the Oneida Healthcare Center Extended Care Facility, where
she had resided for the past 11 years.
She was born in County Roscommon, Elphin, Ireland, on Nov. 10, 1911, the
daughter of William and Ellen Nolan Foley.
As a young girl she immigrated to the United States with her sister, Angela.
Mrs. Voelker lived and was educated in Oneida.
On July 3, 1935 in St. Joseph's Church of Oneida, she married Edward "Ted"
Voelker, former chief of the Sherrill-Kenwood Fire Department. Mr. Voelker
died Oct.15, 1985.
Mrs. Voelker was employed by area restaurants as a waitress and was
remembered as "one of the Friday night girls" at the Sherrill American Legion.
She was a founding member and former officer of the Sherrill-Kenwood Fire
Department Ladies Auxiliary for over 50 years.
Mrs. Voelker enjoyed arts and crafts, especially ceramics.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and "Ted" and Pam
Voelker of Sherrill; one sister, Florence Rock of Elphin, Ireland; four
grandsons, William Ahles Jr. of Poland, N.Y., Christopher Ahles of Oneida,
Robert Voelker of Oneida and Richard Voelker of St. Cloud, Fla.; three great-
grandsons and several nieces and nephews.
