ROME — Lyie C. Getman, 84, 302 McRae St., Rome, formerly of Devereaux Street, Oneida, died Friday
morning, May 22, 1998, in the Rome Hospital, shortly after his admission, after being stricken at home.
Born in Constantia, on June 5, 1913, he was the son of Jesse James and Aruelia Miller Getman. A resident
of Rome for the past few years, moving from Phoenix, he was educated in Oneida schools. He married Helen
Wakefield, in Durhamville, on June 16, 1934.
Mr. Getman was the owner and operator of Getman's Service for many years and later was employed with the
former Oneida Motor Car Company, Inc., prior to his retirement. He was very active in the Oneida Men's
Bowling League and was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving besides his wife, Helen, is one daughter, Wava-June Pitcher of Liverpool; one brother, Clifford
Getman of Oregon; two sisters, Alice Genge Bowman of Largo, Fla., and Marion Shelter of Newark; three
grandchildren, Michelle Carpenter, William Pitcher, and Richard Pitcher; five great-grand-children and
several nieces and nephews. A son, Roy L.Getman died on May 20, 1963.
