Mary C. Swayze Palmer

  Hatfield, Ark. - Mary C. Swayze Palmer, 92, of 596 Polk Road, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001 at the Mena 
Hospital in Mena, Ark., following a brief illness. 
  She was born on May 24, 1909 in the Town of Fenner, N.Y. the daughter of Harry and Myrtle Roberts 
  Mary spent her early years in the Town of Fenner, graduating from Canastota High School. She later 
graduated from Morrisville Teachers Training School. Mary had lived in Morrisville, where she and her 
husband, Clifford ran a Dairy Farm for several years, and later in Vienna for many years. She also lived
in Collegedale, Tenn., Douglasville, Ga., and in Mena, Ark. for the last 20 years. 
  She has been a school teacher in the Stokes/Lee Center area for a short time. She had later worked as 
a Nurse's Aid in Collegedale, Tenn. and Douglasville, Ga. 
  Mary loved nature and had been a member of the Audobon Society and the National Wildlife Federation. 
  She had been a member of 7th Day Adventist Church in Oneida, and later in Mena, Ark. 
  Mary married Clifford G. Swayze on Feb. 19, 1931 in Rome. Clifford died on Nov. 9, 1945. She later 
married Orrie P. Flynt on Sept. 9, 1961 in Douglasville, Ga. Orrie died on Dec. 2, 1975. She the married 
Ralph K. Palmer on Dec. 12, 1977 in Ringgold, Ga. 
  Surviving besides her husband, Ralph K. Palmer, are seven sons and five daughters-in-law, Dr. Clifford 
A. and Alice Swayze of Austin, Texas, Dr. Gerald A. and Linda Swayze of Mt. Vernon, Texas, James Willard 
Swayze of Kingman, Ariz., Daniel W. and Margaret Swayze of Blossvale, Dr. Donald A. and Mary Ann Swayze 
of Lucinda, Pa, John Byron Swayze of Victorville, Calif., Norman O. and Pat Swayze of Tonopah, Nev; one  
daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Larry Payne of Nampa, Idaho; one sister, Gertrude Haffendon of 
East Syracuse; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; two great-great-
great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by a son, David A. Swayze, who died 
on Dec. 30, 2000; four brothers, Harry Campbell, John Campbell, Vernon Campbell and Harold Campbell;  
and two sisters, Rhuletta Campbell and Olive Loucks.
