ONEIDA - Mabel I. Butler, 92, 0f 505 Stanton Street, Oneida, died on Saturday evening, Dec. 29, 2001
in the Oneida Healthcare Center where she had been a medical patient since Dec. 24.
Mabel was born Feb. 15, 1909 in Leroy, N.Y., the daughter of Albert C. and Selena Mae Lansbury Cater.
Mabel came to the area as a young girl and attended Sherrill High School.
She married Ernest P. Butler on Feb. 19, 1927 in Stockbridge. Mr. Butler died on Oct. 4, 2000.
Mabel was employed as the payroll clerk with the former Jack's Tasty Snacks Co. of Oneida for 12 years
retiring in 1970. She later was employed at the former Joseph Behr Grocery Store and the Holmes Gift
Shop, both of Oneida.
Mabel was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Oneida and St. Paul's Ladies Aid Society.
She was formerly a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and the Circle G. of the Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest Robert and Alys Butler of Lake Okeechobee, Fla.,
Richard C. and Rose Butler of Oneida; one daughter, Marilyn J. Dunbar of Oneida; two daughters-in-law,
Jane Butler of Oneida and Joyce Tallman and her husband, Ken of Lake Okeechobee, Fla., and one son-in-
law, William J. Rowe of Oneida; 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; several great-great-
grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mabel was predeceased by one son, Joseph Butler on Dec. 3,
1993; one daughter, Irene Rowe on Dec. 15, 1991; one sister, Edna Cater of Auburn on March 9, 1998; and
one brother, Albert Cater.
