BROWNELL

Anita Ledbetter Fri Jan 14 12:11:32 2000
My family is researching our Family Tree. Here is the problem. My ggg grandfather was "Yankee Jim" Brown. He married a M. Wilson in 1846. The name on the license is R.B. BROWN. He was born around 1811 - 1815. He told on his death bed that he had gotten in trouble with the law for counterfeiting and left the New York area and moved south. He also said he had left a wife and children. We have been told that BROWNELL is a possible name due to the fact that he signed a census one year as BROWNELL and one census as BROWN. I know this doesn't sound to pleasant but, the family said that they would have never know this if he had not told this on his death bed. Due to the fact he lived a normal law abiding life here in Alabama. I am looking for someone that can help in this search. Maybe a story similar to this has been pasted down in your family tree or maybe the possibility of a newspaper article on a BROWNELL caught for counterfeiting.

Here is our family tree:
R.B. Brown (Yankee Jim)
Isaac Doc Brown
Collie Brown
L. D. Brown
Barbara Brown Atchley
Anita Atchley Ledbetter

Thanks, Anita Ledbetter - anitaledbetter@webtv.net

PERRY, LASURE, HAMILTON

Alice Perry Sun Mar 5 15:50:15 2000
My PERRY line goes back to David PERRY, born in Columbia County abt 1759 but moved to DeRuyter abt 1800. His son, William Wallace PERRY was born in Georgetown and married Rachel HAMILTON; they had 13 sons, and one written source states that Perryville NY got it's name from this prolific family. William Wallace Perry's brothers were Eleazer, Jphn Nelson, Hirum and Jesse. I won't name all 13 sons, but if you have a PERRY relative born in or around Georgetown NY, there's probably a connection.

Also, three of Willaim Wallace's sons married woman surnamed LASURE. Have only been able to find Loran LASURE in the 1830 DeRuyter census, Isaiah LASURE in the 1830 and 1840 DeRuyter census, and Hannah (Loran's wife) in the 1840 DeRuyter census. I'd appreciate any information on the LASURE family. Thanks.
