STONE - HARRIS - WEATHERLY - HUNT

Robyn Stone Thu Jan 3 12:46:06 2002
Looking for any info on relatives of the the Dwight B. STONE family of Georgetown, Madison Co., NY . The wife's name was Ida Electa HARRIS and the families of WEATHERLY and HUNT are somehow connected to her or Dwight. The STONEs owned a farm in Georgetown and so did the HARRIS family. The STONE children, Harry , Lynn (male), Alton, Ada, Daisy Belle were divided among relatives and raised by them even though parents were still alive. Perhaps the farm failed financially and parents weren't able to support the family. Mother, Ida Electa may have left the family perhaps due to divorce or some other reason. Anyone with info please eamail me at : robynstone@aol.com

PIERCE - WEBB - FIELD

Bert Semmelink Mon Jan 28 11:12:47 2002
There is a Quaker cemetery listed on the Madison county site. Is there a cemetery list available? I am looking for any PIERCEs or WEBBs in it. I am looking for a Stephen PIERCE born in Madison county 23 March 1821 and moving to Cortland county about 1827. There is a John PIERCE in Truxton that has a son the right age on the 1830 and 40 census. John PIERCE drops of the Society of Friends records about this time, which is also the time the church breaks in two. The LDS library has the Society of Friends records but not the split off Orthodox Society of Friends records. Do these exist? Are there any other records or newspapers for the DeRuyter area in the 1820s that might help?

John PIERCE was probably born in 1778. He was in the Society of Friends between 1794 and 1806 in Dutchess county, New York. He is listed as an early pioneer of DeRuyter coming from New York in 1808. He appeared on the census in 1810 in Madison county NY. He was in the Society of Friends between 1812 and 1824 in DeRuyter, Madison co., New York. He appeared on the census in 1820 in DeRuyter, Madison co., New York. He probably appeared on the census in 1830 and 1840 in Truxton, Cortland co. New York. He probably died on 11 September 1849.

He was married to Deborah FIELD (daughter of William FIELD and Hannah) on 8 March 1797. John PIERCE and Deborah FIELD had the following children:

Mary PIERCE was born on 24 September 1798. She was married to Isaac WEB (son of Job WEB and Hannah) in 1820 in DeRuyter, Madison co., New York.
William PIERCE was born on 29 November 1802.

Looking for the maiden name of my g-grandmother, buried as Sarah COMPTON next to her first husband, John R. COMPTON (1823-1860), in the Madison Street Cemetery, Hamilton, NY, alongside two young children, both having died in February 1854. She moved to Lenox in 1860 and married my g-grandfather, Ashley Porter NORTHRUP, in the early 1870's, becoming Sarah NORTHRUP until her death abt. 1882, when my grandfather, Burton Ashley NORTHRUP, was 9 years old. Any ideas for 1) newspapers that would contain marriage or birth announcements or obituaries for Hamilton 1840-1882? or 2) churches in the area for marriage or baptism records?

WALKER - SUTHERLAND - MAGEE - PERRY

Lee Morse Sun Mar 17 16:04:48 2002
In the 1870 federal census for Sullivan, Madison, NY was a WALKER family. Head of household was James WALKER, age 44 (or 40), wife was Margarette, age 33, son William, age 11, daughter Alice M., age 9, and daughter Ada, age 1.

Does anyone know anything about this family? I believe Alice M. may have been the "Nettie" WALKER, born in 1861, who married Fred SUTHERLAND in 1877 and William MAGEE in 1886. She lived in Pompey, Onondaga, NY and later moved to Cazenovia, Madison, NY where she lived with a daughter and the daughter's husband (Adelbert PERRY).
Nettie was my great grandmother, and I am interested in anything at all about her family.
