BALDWIN - SEYMOUR

Harriet Raffo Sun Oct 22 10:02:58 2000
I am searching for any info on Jared BALDWIN who was born in Ct. abt 1782 and died in either Onieda, Oswego or Madison Co. N.Y. and also searching for info on his son Abel Seymour BALDWIN. Jared BALDWIN was married to Dorcas SEYMOUR also of Ct. They either married in Ct. or N.Y.. They had Harriet BALDWIN born about 1808 and Abel Seymour BALDWIN born 18 march 1811 around Fulton,Oswego Co(?). Abel Seymour BALDWIN's father Jared died shortly after Abel's birth and he was raised by his uncle Leverett BALDWIN who was married to his mother's sister. Leverett made sure that Abel had good tutors, one being Thomas Spencer who had settled in the town of Lenox. I have found Leverett on the census in Madison County (I think he lived in Lenox,Perryville or Fenner) I am hoping that someone knows where Jared is buried and that there are some guardianship papers for Abel or a will for Leverett that might mention the nephew Abel that he raised. Abel BALDWIN graduated from the seminary at Cazenovia and the Polytechnique at Chittango and later married Eliza SCOTT (in Geneva, N.Y.,I think) as he graduated from Hobart College receiving his medical degree and shortly thereafter moved to Jacksonville,Fl where he gave much to his community.

ACKLEY - BENTLEY - HUDLESTON - LATHROP - SOULE - SPRINGER

Ted Steinhorst Sun Dec 3 16:07:30 2000
For some time now, I’ve been trying to learn how the following people might be related (particularly Alice [ACKLEY] Soule and Daniel C. ACKLEY, who was the Justice of the Peace of the town of Lincklaen in 1843). Having no luck on my own searching various documents (many originals), I thought I would throw it open to see if anyone else reading this can help. These names occur together in a couple of instances:

* In an indenture dated September 30, 1839, between Daniel C. ACKLEY & his wife Emily, Ebenezer Bentley & his wife Rhoda, Stephen Bentley & his wife Phebe, Emery Soal [or Soule] and his wife Alice, Asa Ackley, Nathan Ackley, & Polly Hudelston (all of the State of New York, and the party of the first part) and John Ackley (town of Lincklaen, Chenango County, the party of the second part)

* In the will of Daniel C. ACKLEY (written 15 August 1851) who died in DeRuyter, Madison Co., January 18, 1864. The will was proved April 10, 1865 by Elihu Thompson [I’m assuming he is no relation], the executer. The will lists the following heirs and next of kin (no children were listed): Emily Ackley the widow, Asa Ackley, John Ackley, Eliza Ackley, Nathan Ackley, Alice Souls [or Soule], Polly Springer, Daniel Bentley, Calvin Ackley, Lucy Ackley, Eliza Lathrop, Moses Lathrop, Charles Lathrop, Rufus Lathrop, Ezra Bentley, Harriet Bentley, and Lucy Bentley.

I’m hoping someone reading this might have these names in their lineage, or stumbled upon them in their research. If anyone knows how the ACKLEYs, BENTLEYs, HUDLESTONs, LATHROPs, SOULEs, and SPRINGERs (listed above) were related, I’d love to hear from you. (For alternative email addresses, try KA2BIG@arrl.net, or steinhorstCL@ldschurch.org) In the meanwhile, my research will continue!

ROBERTS - CARR

Wayne F. Baldwin Tue Dec 5 06:22:36 2000
Hello everyone, I'm trying to help my friends find something on their ancestry. Their father, Esick Carr ROBERTS, who died in March 1989, stated in his marriage license dated Aug. 1945 (Town of Colchester, Delaware Co., NY) that he was a resident of the Morrisville. His occupation at that time was soldier. He married Myrtle Kathleen ERNIE. Esick gave his parents names as James B. ROBERTS and Elizabeth D. CARR.
Other children of James and Elizabeth (CARR) ROBERTS were: James Leroy "Roy", D'elton, D'earl, and Lillian. Elizabeth (CARR) ROBERTS died of stomach cancer circa 1928-1932. James is said to have been killed while "leaving" the area while he "jumped" a train, was killed either by being hit by train or while train was going through tunnel or overpass.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Wayne F. Baldwin

PINNEY

Joyce Tue Dec 12 07:12:32 2000
I have traced my husbands third GGFather James A. PINNEY Sr. (1776-1859) born in Conn. and his wife Mary (1786-1874_) born in Mass. to New Woodstock where he resided from about 1836 until his death. He worked as a tanner and both he and Mary are buried in the New Woodstock cemetery next to the Baptist Church. He is on all the census since 1810 and 1820 in Litchfield Twnsp., Herkimer Co., NY until 1830 in Manlius, Onondaga Co., NY and from then on until his death in Cazenovia Twnsp., Madison Co. NY. I have much family history on him but nowhere is his middle name spelled out. He has carried the initial A. in his name all through the census and even on his tomb but nowhere does it say what the "A" stood for. This is very important because it will connect him with a James A. PINNEY in Conn. and back several more generations if the middle name is the same. Thanks JOYCE

Looking for ancestors of John Ward CONLEY who settled in Canastota, Madison County, NY, in the 1840's. He was born in Springfield, MA, in 1814 to _____ Conley and Margaret Warner. He married Pamelia Elizabeth JOHNSON (1820-1887) in Clockville, Madison County, in 1841. They had 12 children. The family owned boats on the Erie Canal and also owned a hotel in Canastota. Conley died in Canastota in 1903. One of his sons, James Emmett CONLEY (1858-1941) was my great grandfather. One of James' sons was Judge Clarence Emmett CONLEY of Madison County (1898-1982). I have found lots of CONLEYs in New England and New York but have not found the ancestors of John Ward CONLEY. Any help would be appreciated.
