The trial of Joseph DAMON, indicted for the murder of his wife, came on at the Court of Oyer and Terminer, held at Mayville, Chautauque county, last week, his honor Judge GARDINER presiding. The trial occupied two days and excited a great deal of interest. The jury returned a verdict of Guilty.

An exception, says the Fredonia Ceusor, was taken by the prisoner's counsel, and a new trial asked for on the ground that a juror had been challenged and set aside after he had taken the oath. The question will be submitted to the Supreme Court, at its October or January term, and if a new trial is not granted, the sentence will be pronounced at the oyer and terminer in March next. The prisoner appeared with perfect indifference as to the result of the trial, and when the verdict was brought in, he was apparently no more affected than the spectators. - Buffalo Bulletin
