POLICE COURT - Jan 1

BEEF STOLEN - William McPHERSON, Al__ MILLER, and Jacob WALKER, colored men were brought up charged with having, with force of arms, malice prepense, and instigated thereunto by the Devil, or some other doomed spirit, feloniously stolen, taken and carried away a quarter of Beef, the property of David MOODY. The charge was sustained to the satisfaction of the Court -- the beef having been found on a boat in the Genesee Valley Canal, on board of which the defendants were partially realizing the whig promises of 1840, having the "beef" and a look for the "two dollars a day," when their hands should have become practised in that very delicate business of "taking things," asking no questions of the owners. They were sent over to the Island, to beef on mush, instead of the beef, which their hands had won.
*
VAGRANCY - Charles TAYLOR, not having the visible, and being visible the worse for wear, was sent to the Poor House, to get fat.
*
DISORDERLY - Peter CHICHESTER got elevated and was committed for reflection on the error of his ways.
*
CORNED AND BOISTEROUS - Michael KELLEY got into one of his accustomed flurries; declared war against bed and board; had a horror of whole windows, chairs and the like, and was brought up on complaint of his wife. Once in the Police Office, he off-coat, hurrahed for CLAY, damned the Justice, and made a pass at the constable, and was borne off to the Island, vowing vengeance against every thing pertaining to the Police Court.

THE ARRESTS ON SATURDAY

We were in error in stating on Saturday that the Sheriff of this county arrested Isa ALLEN Esq., Elisha P. BURDICK and others. The persons designated were arrested by constable Thos. W. PHIPPS of this city -- They had solicited permission to visit GOYER in jail, and were secured before they left the spot. The Sheriff as we learn knew nothing of their arrest until after they had been locked up. ALLEN is a Justice of the Peace, BURDICK a constable and both are 'Indian Chiefs.' - Troy Budget.

OUTRAGE - Mr. Thomas HOLDEN, very well known in the community as a respectable industrious citizen, was employed at the Theatre to receive the money, &c., on last Saturday night, at which time and place a dispute arose between him and a man by the name of A. L. D. JOHNSON, about the price of a ticket. When JOHNSON left the Theatre on that night, we understand he told HOLDEN he would settle with him in the morning.
Accordingly, next morning he called at the house of Mr. HOLDEN, with a gun. Mr. HOLDEN came to the door, and the moment he did so JOHNSON shot him in the legs. -- The gun was loaded with brister shot, some 18 or 20 of which were lodged in the calf of HOLDEN's legs: and although not endangering life, yet causing excruciating pain.-- JOHNSON immediately fled, but was taken in the course of the day, and is now in jail. -- Wilmington (N.C.) Journal.

The New York Herald states that the express sent by Gov. BOUCK to that city, with a requisition for a company of cavalry, to proceed forth with to Hudson, was promptly obeyed. The Herald says:
"The orders were received yesterday by Gen. STORMS for sixty mounted men, fully armed and equipped to proceed to the scene of trouble forthwith. In compliance with the above order, Gem STORMS ordered that the troops commanded by Captain KRACK and Captain HEATH, should muster, mounted and equipped. They started for Hudson at two o'clock this morning, in a steamer chartered for the purpose.
