STOLE A RIFLE - A man named John WADDLE was arrested yesterday, charged with
stealing a rifle from W. R. WOOLSTEN. The parties have been at work in
Mendon, and came to the city on Tuesday. WOOLSTEN left his rifle at a
tavern, went to the Theatre, got drunk, and brought up in the Watch House.
WADDLE took the advantage of his companion's confinement, went to the public
house, obtained the gun by pretending to be a brother of the owner, and sold
it for nine shillings. He was committed to trial; and having been before
convicted of petit larceny, he will go to Auburn if found guilty of the
offence with which he is charged.
